Fantastic Drive on Sunday - Please read !
Discussion
Hi Everyone, I don't generally post much on the forums but felt the need to share this story with you all ! Me and my wife went out for a spin in my 1998 4.5 Cerb on Sunday, we took a nice calm drive up to newlands corner in near Guildford (great spot by the way if your local) and had a blast through some villages and on to Dorking - seeing peoples faces when the Cerb drives past and pops and bangs (she has a straight through exhaust fitted) never fails to make me laugh.. We started to head back towards Guildford and this guy and his blonde girlfriend comes flying up behind me in his Porsche 911 Carrera 4 S and he starts taunting me a bit - so I ignore him for a bit (plus the wife always tells me to drive slowly etc..) anyway after about 10 minutes I can't take it anymore !!!! We pull up to some lights and I turn and look at my wife and I said to her hold on.. I pull off really calm in first and then get into second and floor it.. the backend snakes and off we go, I look on in the mirror and I am gone no sight of the Porsche, after a few minutes he catches up and the look on his face is priceless...

Good stuff!
Keep showing them, not bad for an old 'un...!!!
I suspect it depends on the model of 911 mind.... Some are pretty quick. L On last years trip to Le Mans, our group consisted of my Cerbera 4.2/5, Roly's Chim (4.0), a Masser GranSport and a 997 4S. We had an absolute blast, all four cars made a very different racket (sound) from the deep rumble of the Chim, the flat 6 roar of the 911, the Ferrari howl of the Masser and the AJP roar / blast from my Cerb.
I'd say that the Cerb is quicker than the 997 (gen II car with I think the 3.8 engine, chrono pack, more accronyms than you could shake a scrabble pack at) but fully loaded (each two passengers, Cerb with mahoosive tent and camping gear) there wasn't the performance gulf might have expected. Yes the Cerb is quicker, but was hillarious blasting out of every village, roundabout, junction etc etc etc at "full beans" in convoy. The passenger and driver of the 911 mentioned that they could hear the Cerb behind them acclerating over the noise of their car, mind, even with the Porsche in "angry mode" selected. They also commented that it was fun watching the nose of the Cerb in the air under acceleration, dip whilst changing gear, then back up under full beans again...!! Very different to the Porsche fitted with the PDK gearbox which just banged the gears home!

A humble Chimaera man here, so not even as quick as your Cerb. I was out a few weeks ago and was goaded by a porker (old 924 turbo I think). I don't usually get in to any kind of shall we say 'willy waving' competition on the public roads because I do tend to worry about the old fun ticket if speeds were to enter 3 figures. However, on this day the chap seriously thought he was quicker and slowed down several times for me to join in. Shall we just say after 2 easy victories I took pity on the amount of smoke pooring from the back of his car turned for home! Did get the old adrenaline pumping though.
I remember your Chim and Cerb from last year's TVRCC track day at Cadwell Park - clearly with the cruise control on that day
You coming again this year to prove to me how fast you really are? Its in less than three week's time.
On a related subject, I had a ride in PetrolTed's Porsche GT3 at Bedford last week. In Ted's hands that thing is stunningly fast and handles and brakes like it was made for the track.......oh, it was.....!

And I will once again be able to proove how slow I actually am!!!!
(Having taken passenger rides with both Graham in his Cerb and Mr Varley in his immaculate Sag, I have calibrated my opinions of my own driving skills accordingly....!!!!)

Graham is remarkably quick in the golden arrow - I have had the pleasure of sharing a garage with him at Snetterton and being left in his dust. Fewer straights at Cadwell gives us lesser powered cars a better chance.
