Taken the jump: X5 to X6.

After much debate and manly mathematics, I have taken the leap of faith from my current X5 (E53) to an X6 (E71). It was between the newer generation of X5 (E70) or the X6 (E71).
At first, I didn't like the way the X6 looked. I much preferred the estate-like profile of the X5, however once I drove it and had a feel for it, I felt the X6 was better for me (I don't carry a 5th person, nor do I ever carry any large load in the boot). And yes, I compared the X6 to the E70 X5 as that was only a fair comparison, rather than comparing it to my relatively classic E53 X5!. I also felt that the X6 was a 'fresher' shape than the E70 X5 in some ways. Its almost as if the X6's shape grew on me within half an hour!
It was then on for the hunt of finding the right car. Punched in a few variables on BMW's used car locator, had a good look on PH Classifieds and AutoTrader, and found… the one… in Tasman green. For those of you who haven't seen this colour, I find it very hard to describe. It seems to be metallic grey in the shade, and shiny olive green in sunlight. Its probably not to most people's tastes, but I really liked it. Black interior with dark aluminium trim and £8000 worth of options (including the dynamic pack and media pack). I pick it up later this week.
I wonder if many PH'ers on here are X6 owners? Did any of you guys switch from X5 to X6? - If so, have you ever looked back?

I went from an E92 M3 to an X6 and loved it for a year. It was 6 months old when I bought it in December 2012 and it proved its worth for me. OK, it didnt handle anywhere near the M3, but it is an entirely different market. I had previously had an X5 about 5 years before and really enjoyed the X5.
I've now moved on again to an M6 but enjoyed my year with the X6....looks are subjective and how it looks only mattered to me. It was the 4.0D and it went like hell when you put you foot down.
8/10 for me. Hope you enjoy yours.
If it has reverse park cameras, you will love them....if it does not, beware of reversing anywhere

I don't have the reverse park camera unfortunately…. I will have to calibrate my mind to parking and manoeuvring it!

So you don't like the looks, don't need to carry lots of people and don't need a big boot. Also you felt the X6 drove better than the X5 presumably because it's lower.So why did you not just get a 5/6 series?!?

My b-in-law has one - absolutely loves it. Not sure why in the UK the X5 is preferred, opposite in many countries where the X5 is seen as the more boring out dated one...

I do like the looks, it grew on me slowly... and has been growing on me hour by hour So why did you not just get a 5/6 series?!?
- I've had a 6 series twice before, the E63 and the F13. I found them to be slightly tail happy... so I'd prefer the stability of a 4WD system.sunnydude959 said:

I am bad at being caught up with the excitement and almost never get around to testing the rival cars. I'm a sales guys dream; watch me walk in, hand me some keys, do the paperwork while I'm out, get me to sign it when I get back. Last 3 cars have followed that pattern!
