Cadilac CTS speedo

I remember the Escort 1100 pop had a speedo that had a max figure of 140MPH on it but unless I'm missing something and I know its the 6.2 V8 variant but this is taking the piss.

Given the home market of this car, the default display would be kmph, so the numbers aren't so daft afterall.

The numbers stay the same. The only thing that changes is whether mph or kph it's illuminated. My Monaro has the same system.

You can swap it from KMPH to MPH mode, which alters the way the needle moves against the fixed dial.

Yup, it's a GM thing, my VXR8 also switches between MPH and KPH at the touch of the button and re-calibration of the needle. It also switches the mileage from miles to kilometres and fuel economy MPG to kilometres per litre etc.

True, but all the cars I've rented in the US had double indication on the speedo.

To be fair I had to think about this as well before I realised the most advanced nation on earth had just painted the numbers on with 2 bulbs for mph and kph

But Canada is KPH and plenty of American cars are sold in Canada. Thus the need for both.
