Hi all
I have recentley got my Cerbera back on the road and it has developed an oil leak from the rear of the sump which I am sure is the rear crankshaft oil seal.
I'm in the process of stripping it down, I've got as far as the gearbox off which is resting on a jack and the exhaust manifolds.

My problem is removing the starter, one bolt has come out ok but the other one which is under the 100 amp fuse is refusing to give, has anyone removed the bellhousing with the starter is still attached.

Any advice much appreciated

Thanks Martin

Have you looked at the oil pressure switch behind the big fuse, very common it leaks just like a crank seal leak?

On another note, I do see why the starter should stop the bell housing from being removed; the ring gear is larger than the clutch assembly.
The starter may hinder getting at the two bell housing bolts either side of it.

If you haven’t stripped the head of the Allen bolt, try more leverage?

I replaced the coil packs a couple of weeks ago and it was all dry.
The leak has been getting progressively worse for a while and it has got to the stage where I needed to do something about it.

The Allen bolt head is ok, it's just the access to the bolt really that's causing the problem.
I think I'll cut down the Allen key tomorrow so it goes on easier. The gap between the top of the bolt and the fuse holder above it makes getting the Allen key on at the right angle to get enough leverage difficult.

^^^^ this makes sence, I had a huge oil leak from the gauge sender, quite common.

I guess the starter is stopping you pulling the bell housing back, as above if the allen key is not stripped more leverage, it should give.

Ball ended allen socket on a long extension from above will do the trick. You may need to jack up the back of the engine slightly so it tips on the mounts to get the alignment right.

Ok update

Bellhousing came off ok with the starter still attached, so that saved me some hassle. The clutch was replaced only 2000 miles ago and looks like its got plenty of life left with no signs of oil contamination.

Problem now is removing the backplate, I've tried a little heat while trying to lever it off but it refuses to budge.

Anyone got any tips, I don't want to cause any damage to it and there must be a better technique than trying to lever it off with a screw driver
