Are Audi cloth seats from the early 1990's the best ever?

Rather a sad question I know but after 3.1 million man hours of scouring the internet car sales for a car I will never buy, and armed with more than the odd tipple I suddenly realised that everytime I stumbled upon an Audi from 20 years ago, the ones with the headrest with the hole, the cloth seats still looked pristine. Far far more so than any leather seat. Also the light coloured ones were, well light coloured still, after all these years. So they must brush up well.

Drivers side door has got a crease where they flppped in over 21 years on the lumbar support but apart from that looks great. The spooky thing this is not a one off. Lots of other 80s and 90s and GTs etc also are great seat wise. Not that I got looking of course. Actually I do. Just to see how long these seats will last.

I used to think the best ever seats were in a Ford Sierra Cosworth. I now think they might be a slight second behind an Audi 80 2.0E

For build quality, quite possibly, but my memory of the seats in my dad's three Audi 80s (all slightly older than that one) was that they were quite hard and uncomfortable.

My friend had some nice ones in his 90 quattro 20v - black Jacquard - preferred the Manta/Sierra Recaros to sit in, but the Audis were great quality

The interior build quality on this generation of Audi is excellent, before they got into the whole rubber coated plastic thing.

I've swapped a seat in this era Audi, but can't remember if it was due to a wear hole in the driver's side bolster or a cigarette burn hole. Build quality wise early 90s Audis seemed excellent.
