Wow, the blower in my car is so weak I need to put my hand on the motor housing to know if it is operational. Has anyone replaced or upgraded their blower to something that actually moves air?

Thanks in advance,
Arthur

Is it possible the motor is in need of a rebuild ? They can get quite weak with worn brushes, gummed up bearings (the grease can solidify) etc.....

The fan on mine was similar so I stripped it down only to find that over time water had got in causing rust that seized it up. Seeing yours still rotates a clean & lube may be all that is necessary. Before re-installing it, seal up between the end-plates & the fan body.In my case the fan had seized & burnt out so I went to a motor wrecker & found a radiator fan of similar size & fitted it.I sealed this unit up.

Super. I will pull it out this weekend and take a look at the condition of the bearings and give it a good cleaning.
Thanks for the advice.

I got info from Griff200 about better ventilation in the thread My new Vixen.
You can find them on Ebay called Kit Car Heaters or mini rally vents.
The supplier is T7design.

Hopes it helps.

I've just put a mini heater matrix, and a 3 speed squirrel fan from T7 designs into the original Taimar fan box. Also modified the water plumbing with a 4 way water valve.
Fingers crossed it works a bit better than the originals eat up.

It's worth checking the air hoses from the holes in the bulkhead to the dash outlets haven't popped out at either end. Mine used to pop out regularly distributing the air thoughout the back of the dashboard but not much in the passenger compartment.

No problems for me in the future.
This is my solution for a better fix of the ducting under the dashboard.
But still looking for a better ventilation system.

On my Taimar (your car may of course be different), after a suggestion from Adrian @ I junked the big chunk of rust from the front of the bonnet and fitted one of these into the ducting moulded into the inner wing. using the original resistor wire I was still able to have two speeds.

Works a treat wink

Yep, me too. Bolted it onto my battery case. Quiet and easy to install.

Any particular reason why you have a picture of an upside down garage on your profile? wink

Yup. Works well but found it to be a bit noisy but l guess l can only hear it at idle in stationary traffic.

Hi Mike,
Thanks for this info.
What do you mean by " big chunk of rust?" Is this the big blower as in my Vixen but placed near the battery on the footwell?
I was told (or read somewhere) that this type of vent was not effective as result of the system.
But enough drivers have a positive reaction so I do not worry.
Hans.

Adrian did the same on my old taimar, worked well and the fan was almost silent

Yes, the original heater fan motor, on a Taimar it sits in the front of the bonnet.
