The number plate certainly links the car to Aston Martin.

First Registration: 08 04 2014
Year of Manufacture: 2014
Cylinder Capacity: 5935cc

I have been told that occasionally, spyshot games have been played with the journalists.

Entering the 'big' saloon marketplace must be / a certain winner / sensible / a heck of a risk / crazy / ...

The car is definitely from AM. Look at some of the details - side strakes, door handles, wing mirrors etc etc.

As to whether or not it is 'from Q department' or just a very elaborate hoax, that remains to be seen, I guess.

Looks a bit like a maserati quattroporte (although clearly its not) - I was once smitten by the idea of one, but early ones are looking very tired now and for sale at 20k.

Well I was thinking that, partly influenced by the fact the headlights on the disguised car look like inverted versions of the ones from the 2 centennial Zagatos (one soft top, one coupe, both based on DBS IIRC)

That got my brain ticking as I recall there were supposed to be 3 centennial zagatos, each a one off, forming a trilogy. But the 3rd car in the trilogy was announced (quietly) earlier this year as being a virage shooting brake (yes an odd choice of donor car given the current line up)

It has very different lights front & rear to anything in the current line up (other than Zagato) which could point to testing a next generation of Aston but IMHO it's far too early to be seeing mules of those yet

Which means my money is on it being either a Zagato (Centennial ?) Rapide, or as the story says a very small run (1-10) of something quite different or just perhaps, a Lagonda saloon. The fact it's insured as a Rapide according to official records should not be IMHO taken as necessarily being significant, despite the first of my 3 guesses above

looks like a test mule to me rather than a new model
Maybe for an AMG engine?

Well if so, someone told the DVLA, 5935cc.

On second thoughts, an AMG twin turbo 5935cc engine, would give Johnny quite a run. ~ smile

Handsome car, somewhere between the Quattroporte IV and the Lagonda Wedge! Either way, a very Italain design and I like it.

If you look close at the side window where it meets the A pillar, they've disguised the glass to make it look more curved than it actually is. Definitely a nod to the Lagonda, which ironically would still look futuristic if it was launched today.

the more I look at this, the more I see of a rapide S, very cleverly disguised, particularly all the elements of the side windows, with zagato centennial esque front & rear lights and a marginally different shape to the flow at the rear

I think you are probably right Jonby.

I notice in one of the side shot photographs, the rear half of the roof is raised. Wonder is they use
hardboard sheets for their disguise, then cover with wrap?

Cannot believe they could make such an ugly aston, the body shape is all wrong
