Strange noises?
Discussion
Hi,
As I'm still pretty new to my griff I wanted to check on peoples opinions of some engine noises.
When accelerating from low revs in higher gears, i.e. 5th gear at 2000rpm the engine makes a kind of metal vibrating sound. Is the usual? It sounds as though something may be loose inside??
Also when slowing right down,i.e pulling up at lights you can sort of hear/feel the engine turning over.
Hope this makes sense, its quite hard to describe the noises I'm hearing.
But any opinions would be good.
Cheers

If it was pinking would I not hear this at all revs? If I am acclerating hard at high revs I get what could be described as a pinking sound, its different than the other sound I described though, not sure's which!!
I will take it in then I think, just to be on the safe side.

Regarding the noise your getting in fifth at 2,000rpm. This could just be caused by the low frequency noise from the exhaust having a resonating effect on something at those revs. Mine does something similar in and is only really noticeable in the higher gears as the rev's rise slowest in these. At standstill hold the rev's somewhere around that mark and see if you can reproduce the noise. If so it's got nothing to do with what gear your in. If it matters I've had the exhaust modified so it's rather loud on mine anyway.
Hope that makes sense! Can't help you with your other 'noise' though!

Hi,
I get the same in 5th, I thought it may have been the ali heat guard that protects the temp sensor from the exhaust as it was cracked, but its still there after replacing it.
Talking of noises...is it a big job to replace the engine mounts as I think they are on the way out? I get a front end knocking sound when pulling away from stationary but never when already moving.
cheers
Nick

Mine does the same thing - worried me initially but after getting it checked out was told it wasn't anything to worry about - so I don't.
Probably sensible to have some one check it just in case it is something more important however.
Hi All,
Just thought I would update you on what the 'Strange noises' are, as I've had it in the garage.
The metal vibrating sound seems to be the clutch bearing, the noise can be got rid of by gently resting my foot on the clutch. It will be replaced though.
The other noise, which I had trouble describing, has turned out to be some kind of hydraulic tapping noise. A value could be blocked, so thats going to be flushed first. If that dosen't solve it time to have it apart!
Cheers
