Caught by Gatso......help as this is different!

Hi People.

Driving along the A697 (Newcastle to Scotland road)today and I got flashed by a Gatso. The thing is it took two pictures of me as I approached it, so picture taken of the front of my car, not the rear.
This road is single carridgeway, one lane north and one lane south. the camera is facing south, so catching drivers going south but it flashed twice at me as I drove north - will the police give me a NIP for this as I thought that they only took pictures of the rear of your car?

You are completely in the clear. A Gatso can only record the back of a vehicle.
All that's happened is that the beam is set slightly too far outwards. It happens a lot with a Gatso near Cambridge which has done that to me about 10 times now.

Right and wrong.

Gatsos only flash in your face if they're empty, i.e. no camera. (obviously this is correct as long as somebody coming the other way hasn't set it off)

Good way to test the limit it's set at too!

Why do they only do that when they're empty? Surely the radar sensing unit which tells the camera to operate because it's detected a violation is a separate unit from the film-holder.
I'm just curious, but I do know that a Gatso facing you cannot 'do' you, so it doesn't matter if you get a Gatso flash in your face. However, a Truvelo is another matter - you MUST know the difference and if you don't, then please refer to the Speedtrap Bible, or some other web site which carries the full details.

Gatsos cannot do you unless its a shot of the back of the car.

Truvelos (which look similar but have 2 circular openings) cannot do you unless its a shot of the front of the car.
