hi all,failed mot today yuk.not too bad failed on - top ball joint rubber split -replacement QH QSJ1004S OR SAAB900 pt no 8993321 -My S3 has shims so take it either should fit ?without grinding?
u/js on lower steering coloumn in engine bay worn -will rally designs top joint RD850 and lower joint RD820F fit S3 OK?
rear nearside gaz shock leaking oil -can these be rebuilt?if so by whom? if not take it i will have to replace the
rear pair together.anyone have any?

Q.1. Top ball joint QSJ1004S- only OLD STOCK ones will fit without grinding. New ones won't.
But it's easy enough to do. The cast body where the balljoint housing blends into the lug needs grinding away to allow it to fully enter the wishbone to allow movement to set the camber. ( I also slightly tapered the wishbone sides to help it slot in.

It is possible to obtain replacement rubber boots from good motor faxtors or accessory shops, but personally I'd just change the whole balljoint while it's off for peace of mind. They don't cost a fortune, so why do the job again in a few months time?
Hope somebody soon comes along with the other answers.

Look ok to me (but there was a recent post where someones original UJ was longer so he also needed a longer shaft when using those joints).french dave said:

Hi All,have taken off u/js with shaft from bottom of steering column.noticed a bit of play in bush with triangular centre held in bulkhead bearing -has at sometime been updated to later type.my question is can you buy just the centre bush and special washer(mines missing).can someone confirm ford sierra ? ford part no f1650936 bush!and ford part no f6121994 washer!thanks dave
