Not sure if it's because i spend a fair amount of time on here viewing immaculate machines or not.
But this is the second time in a week i have went view a car and it was absolutely disgusting and filthy.
This was the pick of the lot.
Yesterday evening went to view a 7 year old Jaguar XJ at about market value.
Now i expect a bit of wear and tear in 7 years but the car was not the same as the photographs.
The bodywork was filthy and dirt was caked on but not filthy enough that you didn't notice the huge dents and scuffs underneath.
The wheels i know are optional extra on this XJ and cost over £2k new. These were covered in brake dust and pitted to hell on every corner.
The leather interior was covered in what i suspect was human mucus.
And the rear chrome exhaust tips were as black as Newgates knocker.
The engine bay was an absolute disgrace like something you would expect to see on Classic Car Rescue. Wires everywhere and dirt/ dust and oil all over the rocker cover.
The guy was so ashamed he got his gf/wife to sell it and she just pleaded ignorance.
Seriously i thought it was obvious if you want to sell your car for top money the least you could do would be clean it.
I would have posted photographs but she kind of twigged as i was taking them.
She wouldn't take a penny off the asking price and actually got quite angry when i said i would leave it on the point that it was worst 7 year old car i'd seen in my life.
It had been MOT'd last week yet it was clearly misfiring.

About 14 years ago, my dad was about to retire and needed to hand his company white mondeo back, clean, so, he washed it for the FIRST time in 3 years, with washing up liquid.
Just as he was putting the hose away, I popped in and noted that it looked MATT, so I got some mer out of my boot, and polished half of the car, bringing it up a treat, and leaving half, unwaxed, and still smeary and matt.
He was somewhat embarrassed to say the least, especially when he realised that I'd run out of polish, and as the shops were now closed, and he'd have to hand it back in that state the following day.
Not embarrassed enough to treat the new Focus that he bought himself for £18K any better.

Funnily enough I was going to start a similar thread. Just bought a 1 owner 307 estate as a work horse and to say it was minging is an understatement. I actually thought the drivers armrest had worn through to the plastic as it was shiny and black, after a good scrub it turns out it was just a thick layer of ingrained dirt on the fabric.
I took me a whole day to clean the inside as every gap in the dash/doors/steering wheel etc had god knows what in them. I didn't realise the seats were two tone until after they were cleaned. I honestly don't know how you could get a 6 year old car so filthy.
I bought it as it was cheap and has an extensive history, dealer just wanted rid.

I don't understand how people can drive their cars in this state. Exterior maybe, but interior needs to be clean because that's where you're sitting / touching!
I went to see a TT at car giant in London about a year ago and it was the dirtiest car I have ever sat in. I couldn't believe they were selling it that condition

Most of them were well prep'd, some extremely well, and one of them was a shed. This was at a 'trader' on an induatrial estate. I saw 'trader' as they had no peoper premises, just a few cars outside an engineering unit. The car was filthy outside, been stood under a tree for weeks, inside full of crisp packets and general detritus.
I'd phoned to arrange to see it so they were expecting me. Chap saw me looking at it came out, said 'hi' and said he'd go back inside for the keys. He didn't even look surprised when I told him not to bother.

I went to a dealer a few weeks ago to look at an MX5 (I know, sorry) and I called the day before to ask a few questions, so they knew I was going to see it.
It was dirty, there was mould inside it but the worst thing was when I checked the pop-up lights and it only had one headlight fitted. FFS.
