I have a 2007 v8v roadster and considering buying a db 9 volante 2008 would I see a lot of difference in the drive and the experience what I'm trying to say is there a big difference in the two apart from extra seats your wisdom would be greatly appreciated cheers

Neil's view doesn't currently count. He drives a training bra and is on pain killers for a bad back so isn't making much sense. There are a number of us on here, under 60 and not suffering any form of incontinence who have DB 9s that go a lot faster than our Neil.

Pay scant attention to the poor lad.

Yes, big difference - best to try one first.

Extra power, extra length....the extra 12 inches will tell you they are there going round bends, at speed - especially in the wet.

You will find you are respected a lot more by other road users as they deem you to be of superior intellect and upbringing.

Please ignore Neil. He has a vagina smile

They understeer more than a Vantage. They have less luggage space than a Vantage, the rear seats are unusable except by midgets.

Most are autos as old people can't remember how to change gears. But the space for the gear lever can be used for holding pipes.

Surprised Woolders is awake at this time of night. whistle

A very 'dwarfist' comment if I may say so.

Look, oh special one, OP is looking for a comparison rather than a critique smile

Btw, Woolders is probably getting stuck in to the night nurse by now yes

Having had a 9 Volante I would ask - do you love the sound that the V8 makes? If you do you will be disappointed if you change. It is much, much quieter. No extra room so why change?

Agreed.

Easy to change though.

Yes, you are right; the day nurse has gone home now, worn out.

Back to the 8/12 discussion, the bra might appeal to a young, eager to finish first, thruster but the V12 will provide far more thrust from further back right up to a strong finish at much higher revs.

Suit yourself.

A Db9v is definitely the way that the big boys go.
If you still like pullin' the wimmin then with that motor you cannot fail.
Not much sitting room in the rear, but it is possible ,if you are a bit supple ,to be able to lay the bird on the backseat for a bit of Hanky Panky.
Nothing better on that warm summer evening than, roof down, putting on the Ray Bans, chilling to some vibes on the audio ,stepping on the pedal and listening to that glorious V12 popping.
The boot space is a bit limited but one can,if needs be,just about ,get two of my Ladyboys in it but they do get a bit discombobulated if left there longer than three hours.
Anything else you need to know, just ask, although I think I have covered the most salient points. cool
P.S. It is ,without doubt, the most beautiful car made in the past 50 years and surprisingly responsive for such a large car,it is always a pleasure to turn up at your destination in that capable and graceful Aston Martin.

I've had both (I was in my mid 30s). I preferred the look and handling of the v8v but needed the back seats so I could get around as a family ( my daughter was just 4 at the time) and it worked very well. Aldo I think apt he db 9 works better as a volante than the v8v. Db9 was far more a cruiser that sounded nice with your foot down, v8v was more boy racerish.

OP how do you drive your roadster?

If you like chucking it round the twisties and pressing on stay where you are
If you want more of a "waft" go to the DB9

The extra length, suspension difference and auto box prevent it from being driven "hard"
It cannot turn in as fast and rolls more

I've often contemplated DBS or DB9.2 volantes but they just don't suit what I use my roadster for

Try one is the simple answer. When I bought my V8 Vantage I deliberately avoided testing any AM V12 as I knew I'd want one..... 18 months on.... I now have a V12 and my fears about how good an engine it is were completely justified.

I agree any Aston has class but I do feel the DB9 is aesthetically perfectly proportioned, and we do like things that are perfectly proportioned, don't we ? laugh

One of the main considerations is that you won't be accused of not being successful enough to be able to afford the proper Aston Martin and had to make do with the "Porsche Boxster " model. Ie the "baby" Aston

If you've done well since buying your baby Aston perhaps it's time to buy the full version now

I know we like to wind each other up on here - I especially enjoyed the V12V owners defend themselves against the V12VS having dished it out to the V8 owners for years - but a 'proper' Aston (to many) is pre Gaydon where the iconic pictures of panel beaters exist and quality was a real passion not an ISO number
