Another of my little glitches with my car is that neither of my door locks work (and infact one has departed from the car altogether!), I am about 99% sure that when the doors were put back together someone missed an important clip out of them both rendering them useless. After a load of searching it looks like the original escort/capri type door locks are slightly less common than rocking horse st. I may have found one to replace the missing one but on my searches it looks like the later type lock are easy to come by and wondered if anyone had tried fitting them to their wedge?

Covers are available to make them look a bit less st if they will work with the rest of the door mechanism.

Unless anyone has a pair of locks with all the bits and pieces available for beer tokens?

Those type don't fit, even if you try and swap the insides.
I've found that the pins that read the key can go rusty and stick.
It is possible to strip them and get them working again, or remove the pins. (but then any key will work) had to do this on car I've working on as they lost the keys.

Thanks Leigh that helps.

Basically as things stand I have a hole in my passenger door handle with no lock at all and a lock that does eff all on the drivers side!

Hi mate..Im not promising anything but i sold a couple of door handles to someone and they might not need the actual locks..One of them is a tiny bit damaged but still locks and unlocks..I have sent him a message but he might of had an early night...Hopefully you will be lucky and he will only want a drink for them...I have had a look elsewhere but could find any...Ziga

Fit a central locking controller (preferably with a car alarm) and disconnect the lock barrels? Then any scrote with a screwdriver will be wasting his time (I know they can still get in other ways...).

I'm with Ian on this one.

When I bought my Wedge, 8 years ago, it also had problems with the locks. So off I went to Maplin and bought a remote car alarm and one of their central locking kits.

Took about an hour to fit, and the doors now work by blipper, although the bloody blipper failed a couple of years ago, randomly setting off the alarm, so it was replaced with a £4.95 ebay special.

The added bonus is the new blipper has also been programmed to operate the garage door opener.

Hi

I agree with Ian and Steve, even if the locks are not causing a problem get a alarm with central locking, easy to fit, easy to use and no keys near your paint work when you open the car!
I can remember my first Chim which the door lock in the door release button on top of the body behind the door, it was so easy to mark the car. ok wedge locks are on the side but just as easy to mark the paint with a key!

What I did was to buy a door handle without a key for the passenger side and then fitted central locking. Very easy to fit and it works a treat

I gave up fixing my door locks. given how easy it is to open the velcro that holds the roof down, reach in and either collapse the roof or pop up the button on the door, I leave it unlocked now and just lock valuables in the boot / take them with me.
I do use a "stop lock" as a visible deterrent and the car is immobilized electronically but if someone wants to steal a car, they are going to do it regardless.

Im thinking of swapping the steering boss for a quick release one though.

It's better to leave it unlocked like JVaughn says if they want to steal it they will and damage it ripping the door locks to bits. I just take the king lead with me.

The only drawback to that is (if they realise) they can always rob one of the spark plug leads as a bodge; a V8 won't mind being stolen on 7 cylinders.
I always take the rotor arm out biggrin

Mines got a battery isolator so I always take the isolator key out when it's left. If they have a set of spanners and cables then not a lot is going to stop them.

Rotor arms a good one but i prefer this..

It was better with the M60 but its a bit in-humane apparently ...I have ordered this for multi-story car parks...Not too OTT is it?..
..Mind you this one is a bit dodgy if they hide behind your car...
