insurance claim advice.
Discussion
Hi all,
I have two cars on seperate policies with different companies, unfortunately I have had a prang in 1 of my cars which I will need to claim for.
I have a couple of questions I'm looking for advice.
I have heard that even if an insurer pays out in full they do not legally own the car, I was always under the impression that if they pay out in full you will lose the car and maybe be able to buy it back or they pay some of the amount and you keep the car. From speaking to the Insurance today the latter is the impression I came away with.
My other query is that I have no claims on the policy I am not claiming on which is mirrored on the other policy, will I take a ncb penalty on my other policy when I inform them of the claim on the other policy?
Thanks.

I'm guessing you mean it might be a write off? if so they pay you out the market value and the car becomed theirs (they take on the v5 etc)
You can still buy it back for the scrap value if cat c or d.
if they repair it then its still your car etc.
With your policy you can only have a ncb on one policy so it'l be affected if its the policy you had the ncd on if not it wont it may still affect it a bit as you have made a claim.
