So I'm planning on taking the dog and the other half away for a long weekend to Scotland soon. I'm taking the roadster, thankfully we have a small dog, but it should be a fun drive and hopefully we'll get some opportunities to put the roof down and admire the scenery in Scotland.

I've been told to take the M6 from Manchester on to A74M and up to Glasgow where we think we may stay for the first night. We're then looking to move on to Fort William up via the A82 as we're told the scenery is fantastic. Same day we'll then head back down to Edinburgh where we'll stay on the second night, before leaving the following day to head down the east coast to visit the other half's family.

Edinburgh is a definite for staying over, Glasgow is on the cards only as we've never been, though we'd be open to a place anywhere on the west coast Glasgow up (the only caveat being the places need to be pooch friendly).

So my question is, has anyone done a similar route, any specific interesting roads to keep an eye out for, any nice places to stop off at along the way etc? I'll be setting off on the Friday and coming back on the Monday so plenty of time, no need to rush, though its quite a few miles of driving so I'll need a few breaks now and then anyhow.

Who me ?

Plenty of articles in here about the area. There's also the Scotland forum. Try a google on dog friendly places - this one came up

Last time I went back up north, we rented a chalet near Loch Oich (just north of Fortwilliam ) which was dog friendly - plenty of off the lead areas out of camp, but on lead inside . Read up on Ticks before heading north plenty of sheep and Deer around.
