Everyone has their opinion on the best movie car chase but, whatever their decision, Bullitt is highly likely to be near the top. It's just a great combination of factors; two cool cars, a great location, a decent length and an appropriately fiery ending. With Steve flippin McQueen.

It's just like the San Francisco original, only without Steve McQueen. And in Surrey
Now the chase has been recreated as part of the Silverstone Classic's 50th anniversary Ford Mustang celebrations. It's hardly a classic (see the video here) but to see a Charger and Mustang being driven fairly hard is a pleasure nonetheless. Just don't mention the explosion.
Anyway, the photos that accompanied the video released seemed like perfect POTW fodder. Alright, it's not San Fran (it looks like Chobham in fact) but having these two muscle cars together will always make a great pic.

That said it's a good bit of film... Drove around the chase roads a couple of years ago in a rental car, Awesome...i thought.
Found the hill with the big concrete cross on top where Dirty Harry stabbed the baddy in the leg! Sat up there on July 4th and watched the fireworks!

Would really struggle to choose between the two cars in my dream garage.. 
Has anybody found out, definitively, where the engine sound for Mustang came from? I've read loads of speculation about how it could be this or it could be that and comments from 390GT owners that their cars don't sound anything like the one portrayed in the film, but I'm still no wiser. Still, the best car chase ever and no, don't say 'have you seen the one in Ronin?'

The charger lifting it's front wheel? Watching the video, there looks like little chance of that happening with such epic suspension travel and looking back at the pic, there looks like some Photoshop blurring???

There's no speculation about it.You can read online an interview with one of the people involved in the filming of how he had to drive the Mustang with a sound engineer up to Willow Springs raceway post-filming to record a load of sound takes of the Mustang as the original in-car sound hadn't come out as intended - he remembers blowing the diff up at Willow Springs during this session.
I think that's great fun! But...
1. The Bullitt chase has two baddies in the Charger all along, whereas this one starts off with one. Where did the other guy come from? Was he in the call asleep at the beginning? We need to know...
2. It would have been great if "Steve McQueen" had got his jacket trapped in the Mustang's door at the end, like Russ Swift did in the Montego ad from the eighties.

Who was actually the same guy that does the motorbike jump over/into the wire on 'The Great Escape' - Bud Ekins.The guy driving the Charger was Bill Hickman who was first on the scene at the James Dean Porsche crash, he was friend's with James Dean.
