I've just seen a 1997 993 Carrera S - that had some interesting looking factory-fitted Turbo S fitments such as air intake scoops on the rear wings and air intakes next to the front indicators (plus others possibly including what looked like a non standard centre console?).

Has anyone seen one of these cars before? And if so, do you have any idea how many there are in the UK (with the factory fitted Turbo S bits) and what premium, if any these should command over a "standard" 993 Carrera S?

Thanks in advance.

Victor

Hi, I think the scoops were a £10k option from memory. I don't think they added much value, but as they are becoming more collectable, this might change. i have seen cars with special consoles but these tend to reduce the value, most people want stock or easily reversed modifications.

I had one which had most of the Turbo S look, but was missing the rear wheel arch scoops and the twin exhaust arrangement (photo on profile). I don't recall seeing any similar in the 11 years since I sold it.

And another question.

How can this car (ie a 993 Carrera S) be a 1996/7 with supposedly factory-fitted Turbo S extras, when the Turbo S didn't come out until 1998?

Turbo S was released in 1997, the same year as the S.

I would welcome more feedback/opinions on my original question.

Thanks in advance.

There were around 250 993C2S made but I don't expect there's any way of knowing how many came from the factory with various options.

Personally, I wouldn't expect any premium. It's all about condition and history for these cars and as many potential buyers dislike such adornments as like them, myself included. Condition and history will trump any option list.

I own a 993 C4S with factory AeroKit II XD1 and XD2 Turbo S front air dam and rear decklid/spoiler. Were they not factory fitted, I'd be removing them.

However, if this car has the X51 factory power upgrade, that would command a premium, and that is very rare indeed on a 993.

Thanks Popeyed - when you bought/sold it was it any more expensive than other "standard" cars at the time?

Possibly a touch more expensive; I paid £37k in mid 2002. I don't really recall how this compared to the standard fare at the time.

Seen a couple but I don't know how many were made. I imagine there are no numbers kept.

OK so not that many replies on this topic so far - but the concensus seems to be that the (factory fitted) Turbo S fitments would not add much/if any value to a standard 993 Carrera S; and they may even put some buyers off completely.

So the car I've seen is for sale at something like £12k more than I would expect to see a standard 993 Carrera S selling for - so even allowing for some negotiation, it seems that this seller has an inflated opinion of what the Turbo S options add to his car in terms of tangible value (there may of course be someone who will pay the asking price!).

Any other opinions?

Condition, mileage and provenance, something you have neglected to tell us may indeed make this car worth 12k over the odds, without all the facts you're asking an impossible question to answer imo...

A friend has a C2S with the rear arch air intakes with 10k miles on it, it's in near perfect condition and I would expect to pay well over average market value to prise that away from him

£12k premium over a comparable Carrera S that's the point you missed!

That's fair enough and it wouldn't be worth the extra but at no point have you mentioned comparable, unless I have indeed missed it....

That would be £100k, assuming manual and good colour / spec.

£100k? Wow.

So the car I've seen has 90k miles, a very good but not impeccable service history (regular enough and with stamps and receipts but not with a specialist that I am aware of - Joyata? In RH6 postcode if anyone knows them), some rust spots on the scuttle (as ever), around one of the rear quarter windows and on one of the sills.

It's for sale for just under £50k - so I'm trying to reconcile whether I think it's worth somewhere between £12-15k more than I would expect to pay for a comparable "standard" Carrera S (remember this car has the rear wings with the air intake scoops, the air intakes that replace the side lights and a non standard centre console which I've seen on a Turbo S).

The owner - who seems like a thoroughly decent bloke and knowledgeable too - has owned the car for 10 years and says that he's already turned down an offer of £40k (which is the maximum that I was thinking of offering...).

Thanks everyone for your comments so far - now that I've shared some additional information if anyone else has anything else to add then that would be appreciated.

Simplez, he is using the options to overvalue the car. The standard C2s looks nicer in my and many buyers opinion.

I love it when sellers say they have already turned down offers £x as it is totally irrelevant to what I value the car at........

The market has gone so mental their prices might not actually be over a decent specialists or OPC any more
