Hello,

I'm an American lost in Scotland (please don't hold that against me, I'm a UK born and a citizen!) , and just about to buy my 1st car here in the UK. The system is archaic here to say the least!

My problem: I'm moving house in 3-4 weeks time, and I'm just about to buy my first car (and use it to move). I was reading that the new V5 when you buy a car can take around 4-6 weeks to arrive (assuming the seller sends it off in a timely manner). I won't yet know my new address when I buy the car, and I wont be at the old address to receive the v5, so I'm wondering how on earth I get the new v5 to my new address?

Is my only option royal mail forwarding? And what happens if it never arrives?

Any input would be really helpful.

Thanks!

Current address and put a redirect on your mail when you move.

got any homeowner friends? put their address on the V5, then when they get the V5, change the address to your new address at your leisure?
