1955 Bristol 405 DHC

There is the most beautiful 1955 Bristol 405 DHC for sale for £150K at Bristol Cars in Kensington.
I am interested in the car but find it difficult to value as they are rare and coupe versions sell for considerably less.
I realise this is a "how long is a piece of string" type question but your input would be appreciated.
If anybody has experience of a Bristol from this era I would also welcome your views.

Mark specialist Spencer Lane-Jones is a friend of mine, he is an expert on Bristols and a really nice guy to too. If you are serious about the car perhaps you could ask Spencer to inspect it for you and give an opinion on the valuation at the same time? http://www.spencer-lj.com/

Thanks Richard,the car caught my eye as I was passing the showroom.It is such a nice looking car that I just wanted to get some info,at an early stage at the moment.
Rich is spot on to suggest a third party inspection for a 60 year old car and its paperwork. It is priced around the same as others sold in the last year. My question would be around what you would want it for (given the other cars in your garage) and your expectations of its performance

That's a very good question and exactly what I am pondering .You know when you see a car and it just looks so interesting that you have to follow it up.
I have a soft spot for Astons but good ones ,especially drop heads,of this era are getting very expensive.
So that set me thinking........

By the way, Steven, I have a copy of the Brooklands book with copies of contemporary road tests, so please PM me if you'd like more on the 405. 0 to 60 time for example is around 14 seconds...that's why I was looking at a 407 or later with the Canadian V8. Regards, David
Thank you so much for your kind offer.I have had a briefish chat with a nice chap from Bristol motors who told me a bit about the car.
Apparently they are selling it on behalf of the owner.
I not the 0 to 60 time ,yes it is certainly not quick off the mark.
Maybe a DBSV Is the way to go if I want a change.
I wonder if you are going to the Burghley meeting in July ,I believe RichB will be there,if so be a pleasure to meet you and admire your car,which I presume is a DB4.
In the 70's I owned a DB6 MK2 ,an auto,in Caribbean pearl with a rich wine interior and sunroof,fabulous car,if only I'd kept it.
