Small sporty car that will take 2 Labradors in the boot?

My MiL has asked my advice on her next car, which she's narrowed down to a 2013 Toyota Auris and a 2010 Subaru Outback - not exactly comparable cars !!!

I want to go back with some alternative suggestions and want to suggest something small sporty and interesting, but the biggest requirement is that the boot must be able to fit 2 ageing labradors, so a Mini JCW is off the list. Anybody got any suggestions - the budget is £12,000 and it needs to be modern, less than 5 years old?

Because this is Pistonheads so she'll need something with rock-hard suspension and 19" wheels and a tiny boot. There will be recommendations shortly she should get rid of the dogs and buy a GT86 (which is the new MX5).

I'd suggest finding her the best example of an Auris or an Outback. They seems to tick all of her boxes and I bet she likes them. Get the one with the lowest boot entry so when the dogs get older they can still jump in and out easily.

When I had an MX5 my Cocker was a bloody nightmare in it to be honest. Sat on the shelf behind the seats but only when the roof was up. Kept licking my ear which was very off putting.

ETA Suzuki Swift Sport? Not sexy but quick, cheap and quite capable.
