My concerns over the Wedgefest 2014.
Discussion
Hi peeps...
Well not long now before what i was hoping would be a fun packed weekend with a little bit extra but looking at the figures and doing the sums it might not be the case.
Don't get me wrong I'm over the moon that people have committed to as much as they have already but my concern is that the bands expenses need to be covered...The shirts are only discounted if 30 or more are ordered..The Saturday night meal had a budget of between £500-700...The size of the hall will now be reduced..I still have no sponsor for the mugs...(May have someone next week)..
Now as much as i enjoy organising stuff my personal life has just hit rock bottom...I have no money..Cant pay my rent and I'm literally running out of food!..My internet may have to go..The Wedge may have to go...In fact my whole life will may have to go..
Unfortunately i don't handle heavy stress very well as i have had some very traumatic experiences that took me to a very dark place...At this minute I'm not sure what to do as i really am up shyte creek without a paddle...
I know this is not your burden or even your concern but i need to share it with you as it reflects on everything else...
My concerns about this years Wedgefest are that..
1. I did and maybe shouldn't of took a figure to base it on which was 50 people min.
2. Perhaps i have been too ambitious.
3. People are bored of it.
4. Its too expensive.
5. It clashes with something else.
Well i don't know...
I seem to remember there being more people last year so i presumed there should be around 50 or more this year but.."One should never presume anything"...I guess.
Maybe people are bored of it.. "I have tried to inject a bit of life into it..But perhaps the life itself has caused it to die".."Ponders"....
I have tried to create a weekend that should cost no more than you normally spend at the fest perhaps a little less but there is more going on over 2 days rather than the one.
The date was the ONLY date i could get and so far as I'm aware it hasn't clashed with too much..Not saying it hasn't with any of your personal plans.
At the minute only sixteen rooms have been booked from the allocated 50-60 and now the allocation has been given back, Rooms can still be booked.(See BBWF news post) but its getting more and more difficult everyday now...
Theoretically the number is the min..46 people coming..
There are 16 people compared to 39 last year for the friday night meal.
The figures are good for the museum =27..(Over half that were reserved).
12 for the Rolling road...May be 11 as I'm not sure i want my old beast to go through it again this year..So the min was achieved there.
22 for the saturday night meal..Just under half of the min reserved but at this rate the bands expenses cannot be sponsored = No band.
14 people for the Raceway...Not bad for a first attempt i guess...
At this point in time I'm only counting those who have already committed either on here or via email to me which was the option giving out in Sprint so that any Non-Pher with a Wedge who doesn't necessarily do any forums...
The event has been advertised really well and there is a lot of positive energy about it all but there is this concern that numbers are down and this being my first BBWF could end up costing more than pride...
Now if it rains that weekend I'm going back to "Planet Zog...Never to return"...Anyway thanks for reading this long and probably boring to some post and a big thanks to those who have committed themselves to supporting this years BBWF...(I think thats what i need..Committing...
)..But then you need to be slightly bonkers to own a bloody Wedge...

Hi Mark,
Sorry to hear that you have such fears, I'm also sorry that we can't make it this year as based on your plans it looks like it should be a good un and both Sue and I are disappointed that we will be overseas. If we had been in the UK even though the wedge is buggered we would have probably stuck a TVR badge on the Celica (it's nearly wedge shape..)
As you know I'm RO for East Yorkshire and the lack of commitment to anything drives me nuts, generally TVR owners turn up but they are bloody useless at communicating their intentions, trying to organise anything that involves commitment before the day is an absolute nightmare and usually involves a hell of a lot of nagging to the point where I'm thinking f
k this - however despite the stress usually turns out well.
One of our regulars sums it up, he always asks me after turning up unannounced "who's coming" whenever I see him, my standard answer is "I have no idea, did you let me know you where coming ?"
Chin up mate

Mark, you are doing your best and there is no doubt in our minds that you are doing just that. The rest is down to the punters. If people don't participate or attend for one reason or another, the festival will suffer and there is nothing that can be done except to ask for peoples support. There is still time, and hopefully numbers will pick up, so let's just wait and see what happens. Whatever the outcome, we should make the best of whatever can be achieved. It is not a competition or a comparison to last year or the next. I am sure there are many people looking forward to the event as I know I am. Keep the fingers crossed!

Thanks for all the support...This really is a great fraternity, I have a feeling that it will all turn out fine..I do have some reservations but at the end of the day if last minute changes have to be made then so be it..
If i can't cover the band then maybe i will have to brush up on my DJ skills from year's ago and make do with the hotels P.A...
All may not be lost in that department...
I have done pretty much all i can and now its out of my hands...Im still looking forward to it though like i do every year....Cheeers...Ziga....

Hard work mate, know that, been there.
You are doing a tremendous job Mark, let the day go with the flow and what will be will be.
When Tony and I did BBWF 2009 there was no format to follow we just winged it being honest, and that made it relaxed. People just did what they wanted during the day. And a lot of people said it was the best way with being relaxed.
You will get stressed no doubt, but trust me and believe me everyone fully appreciates your mega efforts.
Looking forward to it mate.

Mark You are doing a great job ! Running an event like the bbwf is a tall order and my hats off to you for picking this up as nobody else would or could! And if you hadn't done so their probably wouldn't be a wedge fest this year .
You have always been here to help me with my wedge ' and I hope your personal problems are taken care off soon. ( Y'all be firing on all cylinder's in no time mate )

Mark,
You are doing a great job with BBWF; remember just build it and they will come (crap Kevin Costner film - Field of dreams)
I'll stand you a pint on the night fella, and I'll bring along a bottle of Whisky for a 'raffle' prize
This will be the first Wedgefest in 8 years of ownership that I'm staying over.
That is in no small part due to you being the organiser, and me wanting to get behind you (no, not in that way I'm not a griff driver)

Thanks for all the kind words peeps...Im sure it will be ok, Im just at a real loose end right now and i forgot how bad the government makes you feel like crap when you need to ask for their help!...Its so degrading...When i told them i have a condition that seriously effects my health if i do not eat healthy and i have no money for food let alone rent they then offered me "Food vouchers"...Apparently you go to a food bank where food is donated by various outputs...I feel like a third world charity case in my own country..Its disgusting!..Actually if i was a third world charity case i would probably be better off...FACT.
Im blessed that i have so many good people around me to help me see above the waterline which is nice when you are potentially drowning.
I really appreciate the help and support.
Thank you...Ziga
I echo the thoughts of all the previous posts, you a doing a grand job I am sure it will all be fine.
Don't sweat on things like the band they are not the reasons people are coming, we're coming for the love of our cars and to meet like minded sad o's sorry enthusiasts, now if you said there wouldn't be beer that would be a problem!
See you there.

Sorry to hear of your problems mark but like the other guys have said about BBWF just try not to get tied up with to much work and ideas and just go with the flow, im sure on the day the usual amount of cars will turn up. i usually only come down for the saturday but i will be ordering the t-shirt cap and mugs as i do each year and nice to hear there is maybe a dvd of the event also count me in for that to.
I will be in New York this year so cannot attend but even without a running Wedge I try and turn up even for an afternoon. Best thing to do is to run it as a meet up in a hotel with a bunch of friends and have a good drink and tyre kick - Anyting else is a bonus.
Unless you have loads of people willing to help out and make it something different then its hard work.
Trying to make it something like a carnival with merry go rounds, sponsors, traders etc is bloody hard work.
Run it as an enthusiasts meet and if people don't want to turn up then don't worry.

Hi Peeps...Thanks for all the support..There is some good advice and some encouraging words there, Maybe i was being a little ambitious so what will be will be..
The goal initially was to have a combined event with the Griffgrowl and then maybe the band and all the trimmings would of been a good call...Maybe some CD's and a screen showing pics from the day is all we need..Im sure the hotel has a PA i could use..It was mentioned to me that people like to go to the event and chat to people they haven't seen for a while so maybe a band would be too loud.
I was panicking a bit as i mainly needed numbers for the info of the hotel as regards to allocated parking space and the size of the suite where we eat.
These may have to be compromised due to the fact that they have a million and one people wanting to get married there this year so are trying to maximise what they can offer.
Once again thanks for your support...This is what makes owning a TVR that bit more special...Ziga
