Best speed camera detector...?

Hi chaps,
After being caught the other I day I'm considering purchasing a speed camera detector. There are quite a few at varying prices online (will probably order via amazon) and wanted one which not only has static but obviously one which has a good mobile database as well as specs and is easy to update and so on.
My dad had a pogo alert which seemed very good, but a high annual subscription (I don't mind paying if I KNOW it's a good database with regular updates). It also showed your average speed as well as current speed through specs and so on, and had a nice clear display of the speed limit (as well as your current speed) but I've seen there are others such as road angel, snooper, talex etc.
Snooper 3zero seems quite good? But the Road Angel Gem+ Has a rechargeable battery which is quite a nice feature....
Any thoughts on which is "best"?

It depends on what you have been caught on ?
2 years ago I was caught speed by S Yorks police who still use the old LTI (I think) laser to detect your speed.
There is not much against these, laser jammers / auto garage doors openers yes, although v little alert times and probably been clocked by the laser before the detector can alert you.
If it was a static camera there a few more options, Pogo as you have mentioned, road angel is one I have used in the past. Just make sure it has active subscription, and updated frequently.
Mine is old now about 6 years old and not used anymore, the latest ones have a live subscription which auto updates it self I believe which is clever so it know more about mobile speed traps.
If I start doing more mileage I will reconsider one, but the mapping technology with camera locations on smartphones is getting much better - almost making the Pogo / road angel obsolete in my eyes

This is what I was wondering, there are smartphone apps (I'm on android) but I wasn't sure whether the databases would be anywhere near as reliable as a "proper" unit, as it were. Road angel seems to get pretty good reviews but just curious as to HOW good the database is. I was caught with a mobile gun. I'm not fussed about radar detection, but if the location is on the database then it should alert me prior to that, making it worthwhile.

I have a Pogo for my Vettes and use a cordless Roadangel in my daily. Unfortunately Road Angel bought Pogo a couple of years back 
so the data base would now be the same.
Although the data base was better on the Pogo, (according to Road Angel, there's a camera van every half a mile down the road), the road angel is a 'connected' one so updates in real time so can warn of live camera vans if another uses has already been through and set the location active. Also, I'm not the best at getting in and plugging in the device to a pc to update the database every night or so. For that reason I would always go for a 'connected' one that updates as you drive.
As for laser traps from camera vans or plod, the only thing that will reliably work from them is going to be a jammer - and that could land you in trouble.

I've found the alerts on my Garmin very, very good. It seems to err on the side of caution with regards to camera vans and speed traps, which I like - it's often popping up and telling me a particular road is a possible speed trap location even when it's not a regular spot for them. I've noticed there is "CamerAlert" app on android which uses the database from PocketGPSWorld which I used to use on my old Garmin Nuvi which seemed quite good, may be pretty good to try out?

Pogo build quality is miles ahead and it did have a better database and was the only one to do the average speed through the roadworks. However, since the Road Angel take over, the data bases are joined, the road angel now does the average speed thing as well so it's just the build quality difference. But to be fair the road angle is used in my daily and I do 40k or so a year and its lasted a few years and is still going. Its always suffered from the dodgy on/off button but ive learnt to live with it and hopefully the new models are a bit better.I had to take it apart and replace the battery a while back but that was simple and its just a run of the mill battery easily found on the net.
As far a as I know TomTom uses the same database, so you could get a TomTom live sat nav and go that route as well.
I used to use the pocketgpsworld.com speed camera database on my TomTom. As a passive warnings system I believe it was/still is the best/most accurate system. You could customise the distance from the camera site the audible warning would go off, and it covered both fixed and mobile sites.
There was a large community behind it keeping it updated, but I couldn't get it to work on my newer tomTom so stopeed using it.
