Interesting new problem: Driveline shunt. Noise from rear.
Discussion
So we took the Chimaera to Yorkshire again this year. We nearly didn't. On the way north we stopped for fuel and as we set back off needed to pull over!
There was a bad metal on metal sound coming from the rear of the car. Trying to work out what the problem was I put it into first and then reverse and moved the car just a little. The Chim has always had some driveline shunt but now there was a noticeable delay before drive engaged in either direction. Coupled with the scraping noise.
Unhappily we called the RAC out as I was going to need to pull out onto the motorway and didn't want a sudden loss of drive or worse. Nice chap turned up, jacked her up and we took a look. Nothing visible wrong we took it for a short test drive around the motorway services. It was working...OK...not perfect..but no nasty scraping noise!
So the RAC chap followed us up the motorway for a junction - and we continued to Yorkshire. A week later there's just a little driveline shunt but there's still some whining from the rear. Oooer.
So it will be off to the specialist for a proper inspection and (most likely) some work. Still - it's a fifteen year old car and it didn't let us down. Nerve racking, though.
Have these symptoms happened to anyone else? If so please share...I'll be sure to post to this thread when we've sorted the problem out.
