Turbo v NA engines..

Myself, I love turbocharged engines. I've owned NA V6's before and my current car has a NA V8, which makes up in many ways for the kick of the turbo (talking about older ones that still needed time to spool up and kick in at 3k revs). I had a Rover 800 Vitesse Sport and a 620ti as well as a Skoda Octavia vRS, and they never felt turbocharged to me, not like my Cossie and my old Impreza.

So, what's your preference?

I LOVE a turbo me. My first car was a Polo Breadvan, but got use of a 306 DT at work. I could have driven it for hours. That was when I was 17, and now it's not quite as exciting.

Now we have a 177BHP Mazda at work and again, I just love it. Never gets boring. The only danger is I want MORE!

Small capacity, high output, NA, redline above 12,000rpm though I'd settle for less with a V twin.

Generally I have preferred my forced induction cars. The F355 was the exception as that was a screamer and so charismatic.

Got the best of both worlds at the moment - supercharged V8

MB 6.3 and the Audi 4.2 biturbo are possibly my favourite engines. Couldn't chose between either if I'm honest.

Petrol give me NA but large capacity,
Diesel got to be turbo and or supercharged..

Turbo wise I have owned a 996 Turbo, Impreza & Abarth 500. All great cars in their own way but for me not one of them can compare to the DC2 Integra Type R I also owned or my current Alfa 156 GTA. With N/A I think its the sensation of the engine building up until it gets to its optimum range. More involving for me and bags more character.

NA please. Largely because I really dislike the disconnected throttle response you get with turbos, but NA seems more "pure" in some irrational fashion. A set of inlet trumpets are cooler than miles of intercooler ducting IMO.

Depends on the car, depends on what sort of car I buy and What it will be used for, having owned both my favourite is a NA 6 pot, but like i say, it depends the car.

Having never driven a properly quick NA i've no idea.
What i have driven i quite enjoy the turbo 'boing' as it spools up hard just after hitting the pedal.
I love the shove in the back grunt of a turbo diesel.

Biggest NA i have driven is a mere 2.5l Mondeo. So may have much to learn.

Depends on the car. Turbos work well in barges where a lazy engine is good and throttle response isn't important, but I'd never want a turbocharged engine in a "fun" car.

Superchargers are a good compromise, if you aren't after fuel economy.

I keep gravitating towards supercharged. Not though a direct choice, more that the cars I want come with a charger but I like the way a supercharged engine delivers the power also the sound of a supercharger is great.

I need to try more turbo cars but the way manufacturers are going there will be plenty of opportunities to own a turbo.
