cossy 24v not starting

fitted a BOA to an MT75 will start and run with a very short tow. Will not start using the starter - spins over quickly but does not fire. Being a manual box do I need to fool the ecu into thinking it is an auto?

A missing VSS usually makes them stall when coming to a stop, never heard of it causing a no start? does it start with a tow?
Have you checked the CPS or the feed to the coil pack on cranking?

yep starts within 4 car lengths with a tow

coil pack has 12v when cranking - plugs have spark (and fuel)

Engine has stood for over 3 years and has some low compression figures - been told that this could be caused by sticking hydraulic tappets which may hold valves slightly open. Still not sure why this stops the engine from firing.

TBH it doesn't sound like a CPS problem but they can mess about oddly ?
