A friend has a 2006 C class 220cdi auto estate with 120k miles on the clock.The car drives fine and changes gear normally but has started staying in gear once he has floored the throttle to make it kick down.Any ideas??

Find a good indy to read the fault codes on star, it can show a valve issue,which can be repaired quite cheaply, also get the atf changed along with the filters even though merc say they are sealed for life they benefit greatly from a proper refresh, this should be done at said specialist so all the old fluid can be purged from the torque converter cost around £150 all in .
Where are you if your in the SE I have found a brilliant independent specialist.

Just a quick update for future reference,

The problem was resolved by the technician noticing a previous gearbox leak and low oil level in the gearbox.The fluid has been changed and a software update later and all works fine again now.
