I didn't find anything about dismantling the doors of a late 3000M (4820FM) in the forum search or on the net. Surely, someone has done this before and can give some hints on what's the best way to do it. What screws have to be removed to get the frame out of the door in one piece ? Any help is very much appreciated.

There's not a lot to them really, un-screw anything you can find and it all comes to bits!

The lower frame brackets will probably be very rusty, I had some new ones made up....

The door skins on mine (Taimar but guess the same?) had a curvature, front to back along the top so the alluminium trim (red arrow) didn't fit properly. I fibreglassed a piece of copper pipe inside (yellow line) to hold everything straight and in shape.

Hansgerd,

Just done this to repair the drivers door on our 3000M. Not as late as yours but from parts book late enough to be similar (4148FM).

Sequence is:

Window winder and door release surround off
Remove door outer panel - push on clips
Remove door inner panel - same
Undo bolts at bottom of window frame (see below)
Undo 7 "tap-it" screws from top edge of window frame
Window frame can then be slid out from top of door (best to have glass at least half down, you don't want it dropping out eek).

On ours undoing the bolt at the back of the door allowed the frame to be pulled up enough to get easy access to the bolt at the front. Well it would have done if the front part of the frame wasn't broken (common problem apparently).

As Mike says, the frame at the bottom may well be corroded. I replaced ours with aluminium.

As the manuals say, reassembly is the reverse of diassembly. Reality is lots of frame in, frame out, check fit, adjust, repeat. Took me quite some time to get a decent fit.

Hope this helps, happy to try and answer any further questions
Gary

Thanks a lot, that makes it clear. I already though so. I will take them apart this coming weekend and report success or not. Cheers again.

You really would want to make sure that what ever you do, that the very last version of the lower spreader plates are used, so that the window goes down as far as possible.

Hi Adrian,

Thanks for the tip. That's already done, the windows are wound down and are sticking in the doors.

Best regards,
Hansgerd

Success... thanks again for your help. It was a bit tricky to reach all the screws but moving the frame halfway in and out and using the access openings it all came apart. I'm enjoying a well deserved beer now.
