The throttle pots on my 4.2 restrict the throttle returning fully causing the car to sit at 1800 rpm when in traffic or stationary. I have fitted new return springs but would the age of throttle pots make a difference?

Thanks

Nope..

I think you need to set your throttles up again.

What would be the best way to do this?

The springs return fine with no throttle pots connected and they are new.

Is there a mod to do or maybe stronger springs?

Thanks

Presumably you can close the throttles by hand with pots in place?

Maybe the pots are pushing on the bar for some reason, could try some washer between pots and mounting?

Ah good.

Are you able to pull back the throttle by hand to reduce the idle RPM ? and is the linkage bar adjusted properly ?

Have a google or someone may be along shortly to give you the link that shows how to set them up properly.

This thread has a lot of suggestions for setting them up but you will need to have the software connected so may not be of any use to you.

Thanks guys, unfortunately I don't have the software or a laptop at the mo to set up so I may have to seek a specialists help, can any one recommended someone in the SE London / north Kent area?

I have thought about APM?

You can't set up the throttle pots without the software.

Try Dan Taylor at Aylsford, just outside Maidstone. http://taylortvr.co.uk/ I highly recommend him.

Took car to Taylor TVR today and all sorted.

First problem was that the throttle wasn't closing fully, springs were wound tighter and an additional bracket and spring fitted.
Then Dan set about setting the throttle pots up and now have a car that idles at 1000-1100 rpm. This was as good as he could get it, but did stress that to get it perfect we need to check the valve clearances something I can get done at a later date.

In the meantime I'm a very happy chappy and would highly recommend Taylor TVR, great guys.

So it's off to Leeds Castle for supercharger seige on Sunday smile

The throttle pots are new? did the person who fitted them re drill the holes?from what you have said i dont think they did, this is why the idle is still too high ,if you fit new throttle pots 5/16th drill bit and re drill the manufactured holes this way you can adjust to correct idle.
Possibly not if the throttle bodies are shagged like mine. With all that play the butterflies never close properly.

The throttle pots are still the old ones and the butterflies are new brass ones from TVR Power, Dan did suggest that we may have to open the holes up but at this point we decided to wait till i get the tappets checked out.

Glad you got it sorted. Dan is definitely one of the good guys.
