991 C2S or Golf R400

Have a Gen 2 C2S manual at the moment and love it
Very interested in the Golf potentially but suspect the drive may be disappointing by comparison-
Also concerned abput the mechanical reliability of getting 400 bhp from a 2 litre turbo.
Upside is 4WD and price of circa 40k
Likely to be limited numbers so no real chance to try first
Other alternative will be a 991 C2S PDK
Any thoughts?

Not sure the two are in any way comparable apart from bhp. And if you really want 4WD then go for the 991 C4S PDK!!Very interested in the Golf potentially but suspect the drive may be disappointing by comparison-

I read good things about Golf VII R and the R400 could become the most impressive hot hatch but I won't even think giving away a 911 for a Golf. Morevoer my experience with a DSG Golf VI R has been negative: it was fast but absolutely not that involving on a demanding road.
Especially with manual box a 991 C2S isn't imeediately fast car for these days, a 400hp turbo Golf would probably murder it in real world acceleration but not in much else I believe. The 991 has looks great (in my opinion), it is cozy and comfortable inside, it still has that sweet 911 handling balance, what else? Certainly a 911 couldn't be my only car because I need more space and 4 doors but if I had to have only one car I will look forward for an M3.

I have a mk6 GTI currently as a London run-around. Let me tell you. The 2 things don't even compare. They both have 4 wheels but that's about all they have in common
Am sure another 200hp would change that. You would still have a GOLF instead of a 911. Not to mention face the depreciation curve a Dover cliff.

Drove a Golf R 'manuel' last week....quite accomplished as an overall package although the sythesized engine note a touch superficial also a bit dear pushing £40k for.....a Golf.
The R400 appears to be more appealing although may only be available as 3 door and 'manuel'....Autocar have suggested it will be c £40k but I would have thought £45k with a few essential extras to be more realistic. Probably the better buy of the two models especially if limited numbers which should support residuals....
Neither of these cars would come anywhere close for driver involvement to your 997 C2S 'manuel', which is seen as the last of a line in some ways with its perfect hydraulic steering and gearbox
both of which are lost on the 991 C2S (although it is noted you prefer a 991 PDK which would IMO be a better option).
Bear in mind the gen 2 991 will be introduced next year which will inevitably hit residuals on the gen 1.....
