Just spent an interesting evening removing a substantial layer of slime and crud from the air filter and housing of my `99 4.5.

The car has done 45,000 miles, has an impressive set of dealer service stamps in its handbook, most recent less than 4ooo miles ago, but the filter was absolutley clogged, I had to remove the number plate and use a scraper to clear out the housing!

I only popped the catches out of curiosity, glad I did now...

Not impressed !!

Remember to re-oil your air filter..... Don't put it back dry!!

I done the same job couple of months ago, couldn't believe the amount of grease I had to remove from the scoop!!!

It's about par for the course for most dealer services.
They normally charge you for a new one on the big service as it is cheaper than cleaning the old one and re-oiling it.
Changing the diff and gearbox oils is often not done on the big service as well. (Well you are hardly going to check are you?)

So true.

Take it somewhere, where they do a bloody good job, they dont stitch you up, and who have got a good reputation.

Joospeed.

PS.
Ian. You look a little young to drive cars dont you.
