Quick cheap car under 1400cc

I'm using an old mini in the up to 1400cc Roadgoing Class in Hillclimbing. It's an old car, there are other "old" cars in the class but the record is held by a Peugeot205.
What other, more modern alternatives is there, to the min in the up to 1400cc class that'll not cost a lot to buy or run and are simple to maintain? I'm thinking 106 but their prices are on the up and I've never had a lot of luck with Peugeots in the past - wifes had a few. I've always had a love of Imps but they are on the up and parts scarce. Cannot see a Midget being a quick as a mini somehow.

My first thought was a 106xsi but they aren't that easy to find now. There's also the AX Gt. I assume forced induction isn't allowed but if it were, then a polo g40 or a punto gt might be worth a look. As a wildcard there's the metro gti. Caterham seemed to squeeze 130bhp out of that engine without too much effort.

As a left field resort (don't laugh!), a K11 Micra 1.3? They have 75bhp standard, and respond well to breathing mods, due to being strangled from the factory.

1272cc 75bhp, similar torque, can be stripped to 760kg easily, and alot less if more surgury is allowed. Easy to breathe more power upto 90-95bp cheaply. If your allowed to add a subframe, then these really handle! Depends on what mods are allowed in the class?
106 phase 1 rallye? Surely this is the top trumps?

Something containing the 1.4 K-series is probably a good bet - it puts out a good chunk of power for a N/A 1.4 in standard trim and the general public's paranoid about Rover means the cars are cheap. A Metro would be the lightest option but a 25 might be cheaper and I'm not sure how much weight you could strip out of one.
