Reducing the noise

Anyone know if it is possible to get something to fit to a Tamora exhaust to remove a few dBs?

I seem to remember from a while back that the shape of the rear pipes made this difficult, but I'm hoping that the problem has been resolved now.

I am wondering if you'd need to take off the number plate/heat shield for them to fit, though?

A couple of us with Speed Sixes run in the TVR Speed Champs and at all the notorious events like Goodwood and Castle Combe etc with tight noise limits?

We run with Cats fitted and Standard exhausts and rarely get measured above 99dB (but normally its around 97dB if we're "easy" on the revs?)

What set-up have you? It may be easier to have a STD rear box than "add" expensive silencers??

I also check mine with the same App as QBEE recommended (Tks Anthony) - Decibel 10th - checked it with Scrutineer at MIRA last weekend and if you did the half meter away @ 45 degrees (threequarter revs) it was pretty much the same as the hald held meter they used?

it now runs at 98db without cats

I have a sports back box on at the moment but still have the std one to put on. No cats though. I will try measuring the dBs wroth another device. I have an Android phone rather than an iPhone so not sure of the accuracy of the App that I have. Where is Clivef?! :-)

I have a JP exhaust on mine which last time out measured at c102.4bd but with a pair of ACT silencers was about 94db I believe.

The JP has rolled edges so just a hole drilled in the end of each exhaust tip and a captive nut on the inside of the ACT silencer pipe.

It does indeed. Had a good chat with Tim at ACT earlier. His suggestion is to cut off the lips and the cans will slide on no problem. If I want to keep the standard box on, he can supply some sleeves for the tips.

So two options then - hacksaw or drill! Looking forward to the pictures of the drilled option.

Richard, what diameter tailpipes are they? Is that a standard ACT can? I don't have a micrometer to do a proper job, but it looks like the internal diameter of my JP exhaust is around 70mm at the tip but possibly narrowing further in. I think the standard fitting from ACT is 67mm.

Just wondering if I can use a stock item or if a bespoke one is needed.

Cans purchased from ACT. And because I am a lazy bugger, fitting to be discussed with Racing Green :-)

£148 or so - I'd better do more track days to get my money's worth!
