My current Bridgestone Potenza S03 are shot. So it time for new tires all round. Ive been through mytyres with a fine tooth comb to find the following options currently available, which might save someone else a bit of time.

POTENZA S001 XL Front £125.6 225/35 R18 87W XL AO
POTENZA S001 XL Rear £128.5 255/35 R18 94Y XL

Continental SportContact 5 Front £151 225/35 R18 87W XL with kerbing rib
Continental SportContact 5 Rear £157 255/35 R18 94Y XL with kerbing rib

Continental SportContact 3 front £142 225/35 R18 87W XL with kerbing rib AO
Continental SportContact 3 rear £171 2 55/35 R18 94Y XL with kerbing rib MO

EAGLE F1 Asymmetric front £126 225/35 R18 87W XL with rim protection (MFS) AO
Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 rear £154 255/35 R18 94Y XL with rim protection (MFS)

Pirelli P Zero Nero GT front £142 225/35 ZR18 87Y XL
Pirelli P Zero Nero GT rear £125 255/35 ZR18 (94Y) XL

PROXES T1 Sport front £146 225/35 R18 87Y XL
PROXES T1 Sport rear £124 255/35 ZR18 94Y XL

Toyo PROXES R1R front £139.9 225/40 ZR18 88W with rim protection ridge (FSL)
Toyo PROXES R1R front £163.4 255/35 ZR18 90W with rim protection ridge (FSL) BSW

Ive had the original Eagle F1's before and really rated them but there only available in non matching Asymmetric and Asymmetric 2 at the moment.

Leaning towards the Pirelli P Zero Nero GT over the Toyo Proxes as Ive had proxes before and didnt rate them that much. Any one tried the Pirelli P Zero Nero GT's?

Must admit the tread pattern on the Toyo R1R looks pretty awesome, however Im not sure about the sizes available?

I literally just changed the tyres on my Cerbera. It had T1R's (now unavailable) and they were pretty old (5 years+), so decided to go for the exact above Eagle F1. The car rides much better now, I'm sure probably as much to do with replacing the old rubber though...

Anyway, I checked the Goodyear site, to see the tyres, and it does state for the 225/35 R18:
"In your size this tire is called the Eagle F1 (Asymmetric), it closely resembles the characteristics and performances of the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2."

Decided to go for them. Lots of recommendations from others, and so far all is good running 26 all round.

Thanks :-)

Where did you get yours from and what exact sizes?

Im a bit put off by all this XL and AO stuff, hard tire walls for Audi's or something.

I have those Pirellis Nero on mine, did about 6k miles last year and was pretty pleased. Cornering grip is VERY good IMO. But then again I did not test the others you mentioned...

I got them supplied, balanced and fitted locally at RSJ Tyres Croydon, all in cost was £622.
I believe those you quoted are the exact sizes and rating. They did mention the front 225 is Audi Original equipment, off the S1 or something?

225/35 R18 87W XL AO
255/35 R18 94Y XL

Cheers, the Pirelli P Zero Nero GT have good reviews online.

Im seriously considering these Toyo Proxes R1R, the fronts being 225/40 with 255/35 rears would mean both tyre walls being fairly equal tyre wall height of 90mm front and 89.25mm rear.

Would equal tyre wall heights be good for handling?

I think I few people have tried 225/40 fronts?

(I have adjustable coilovers, so can adjust for ride height)

I have R1Rs on 17" wheels and i am very pleased with them. I got a round of applause from the pits when I went into Surtees at Brands way too fast last year and still stayed on the tarmac.

Fitted 2 years ago, thay have done 6000 miles 7 sprints and a track day and as of today have between 4mm and 5mm of tread across the entire width.

I've used the Eagle Asymetrics since bought the Cerb over 5 years ago now - they seem to suit the car and for me they work in colder weather, wet, and have handled trackdays as well. But maybe I'm not pushing them that hard to want supersticky race compounds... ;-) I wanted an all round tyre and like the Eagles.

Mind - haven't tried an alternative to compare to...

I did go up a size on the front (I will check exact size but think 235) and on full lock under load (e.g. hard cornering on roundabout) it can slightly catch....

Thumbs up for the Toyo T1Sports, i thing Gazzab (Cerebra's very own master Yoda) went up a size on his fronts a couple of years ago and had rubbing issues.

Thanks, whats the down side to such a "track focused" tyre?

Can you check your front? I can only find them in 225/35 or 225/40, nothing in 230 or 235.

Thanks

Im procrastinating over these tyres way too much........hahaa

Anyway, this is the way I see it:

The Toyo Proxes R1R are a risk with the sizing available.

I like the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric with rim protection, but the ocd in me is struggling to accept having asymmetric 1 front and asymmetric 2 rear.

The Pirelli P Zero Nero GT dont seam to have much of a rim protector, with the stretch on the front I think a rim protector would be preferable.

So its going to be further procrastinate, procrastinate.....

If I was to risk trying high profile tyres 225/40 and 255/40 there are a lot more options, the Toyo R1R and Goodyear Asymmetric 2 all round.

Toyo R1R's have just been discontinued, so that's one choice out of your way!

To answer your track day tyre question, they tram line a little, are noisier and wear out quickly. Having said that I would not fit anything else!

I have 225/40/18 fronts BTW on spiders, no problem. I think the width of 235's makes it marginal.
