So very annoying and unbearable!
Discussion
I have a very rare disorder that affects my Eustachian tubes called Patulous Eustachian Tube Disorder (PET) ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patulous_Eustachian_t... ) and these last few days it has been driving me absolutely insane,
I have had this since I was 16 (1997). I dealt with it as it was manageable, only happened in one ear and putting cotton wool in the ear reduced the symptoms. The symptoms are heaing my own breathing in my ear, my own pulse, hearing low frequency echo's and hearing my own voice loudly. Roll forward 13 years and it started to do it in my right ear. One operation later to fit grommets into my ears (mis-diagnosed as Eustachian Tube Disfunction), and I was actually symptom free for 6 months. After the 6 months I saw the UK's specialist and he correctly diagnosed me as having PET, and removed the grommets. Again I went symptom free, but this time for 3 months. It was then agreed that we would try Bioplastique injections around the tube's to help close them up in 2013. Now this has more or less worked, but there are still days and times when I have the symptoms, but this is alot less than when I do not have the symptoms.
But, for the last month I have had fluid in my left ear, and since Friday of last week when it has pretty much all gone, my left ear has been driving me insane. When I breathe in through my nose, I feel a pulling sensation on my left ear drum. When I then breathe out through my nose, I feel a pushing sensation on my left ear drum. It is like I need to take a pin to it and pop it. This feeling is most unpleasant but not painful. But it does dull my hearing when I breathe in. Now the simple answer is to not breathe in through my nose, but I have been doing this for most of my life, and is a difficult habit to change.
I know there are people in the world who would happily swap what they have illness wise for what I have, but to me this is just horrid. It is a massive distraction and is making me miserable. I can put up with most things, but the pulling and pushing sensation on my ear drum is unbearable. I have an appointment to see the specialist next month, but I am hoping that this has fixed itself by then. It is frustrating as there is no cure, its relatively unknown and as a result doesnt really get looked at by anyone, so people like me who have it had to pretty much suffer with it. It also only affects adults. There is no real known cause for it either.
Sorry to go on and that, but I needed to just do it.
