I need my lexus re-gassed. Saw an offer for £21 and booked and paid online. Garage phoned me to confirm appointment and when I told them the car he said some Lexus's take more gas than usual so there may be a surcharge. Is this a con? It's an IS220d. I have a feeling they are trying it on. Cant find much info on air con capacity for this model on the net.

I'd just take mine to kwik fit. No fix- no charge and as a machine does everything I don't even think their legendary skills would be a factor.

I've got a feeling that lots of cars (if not all) have a sticker on the bonnet slam panel somewhere saying what refrigerant they use, and how much of it they take. If so, you could see what it says, call them, and get them to give you a definite quote. The "we might charge more when it comes to it" does sound like a slight risk otherwise...

The amount they take will normally be quoted as a weight rather than a volume, by the way. And it'll be R134A or something for the refrigerant.

£21 sounds very cheap and might imply they are reliant on just topping it up rather than pressure testing and drain and refilling it.

It was a Groupon offer - i think they normally charge about £65 for it.

430 grams according to this chart, which seems pretty low compared with everything else.

ETA did you tell him it was a 220D and not a 200? There's a fair difference between those
