JCW Countryman - what are they like?
Discussion
We have a solo test drive of a 14 model demonstrator on Sunday as one of these is in the running to replace my wifes Leon along with an Evoque (chalk and cheese I know).
The spec we've chosen works out to approx 34k (Petrol manual, lounge leather, Chili, Pano roof etc) so it is pretty much in line with a base spec Evoque pure tech but before any negotiations.
In the first instance what are the JCW Countryman's like to own/drive? I know we'll be finding out the latter part for ourselves Sunday but would appreciate some real world thoughts. A first look in the showroom gave us the impression MINI still have a lot of cheap plastic around, not great at the price point we're looking at.
The new MINI is now out on the new chassis so is the current C/man due to be replaced soon? If so are there any good discounts likely to be had on the current ones?

Worth noting these is the facelift in June with a few change/upgrades. This is mid cycle rather than new platform so expect another 3/4 years. That said a 2.0 would be far better suited.
If you're buying new and can wait for the facelift might be worth holding out for but its pretty minor. They have some things to improve soundproofing but nothing you can touch and feel in terms of plastics.
We went for a Cooper S. In truth could do with more power and the FWD is a bit scrabbly and in sport does squrim about a bit so All4 is worth it and included in the spec.... that said its £10k less!
