The Facet Redtop pump for the swirl port I fitted to the racer, leaked at the connections, was told to use some thread lock, as this would stop them coming loose and also seal them.

This worked fine, also been told this is common practice.

I always thought that where fuel is present, red hermetite is the compound to use. However, make sure that you are supposed to use any compound at all when fitting a pump.

Well guys, I took the new pump if yesterday, put the sealant on all threads.....and the damned thing still has fuel seeping from the banjo join side. Any ideas? What am I doing wrong?
Pump, copper washer, then the threaded exit from the pump (dont know what to call it), another copper washer, the banjo fuel pipe, another washer and lastly the main nut. Same as what I took off.
cheers

Normally there only needs to be one of each and i presume they are new washers?..If you use old ones then this can happen and nothing you do will stop it.
They are not ordinary copper washers, They are called crush washers and are softer than say one from the plumbers merchant....Ziga

Hi mark, yeah the washers are new with the pump. I've put one either side of the banjo; should there be only one there? If so which side?
Cheers

As far as i can remember mate there was only one either side of the banjo = 2 in total. If you have two on one side and one on the other then the side with two will probably leak due to the fact that the washer is not able to seal up as they need squashing down as you tighten up...Ziga

Hi Mate...Is the pump like this..Just need to remind myself of the type as the V8 has a straight clipped on hose..
If it is then after the nut you see on the pump you only want one washers and then the banjo and then the other washer and then the last nut..There is a technique for tightening the nut on the banjo as trying leverage on the nut shape on the pump can result in major leaks...Once tight then you need two spanners one on the nut on the pump and one on the nut on the banjo..Set them apart like a pair of scissors and gently squeeze together, Repeat until tight enough....If the nut on the outlet as shown in the picture is not tight then you need to apply the same procedure..Ziga

I've got one either side of the banjo but a third one between the pump and the part that screws into the pump?

Can you see where it is leaking from?...The nuts might not be tight enough...Ziga

heres a pic of my leaking pump. I have taken out the washer closest to the pump itself and it seems to have stopped leaking. There are one on either side of the banjo despite it not being apparent in th pic.
Without the washer it doesnt look right and doesnt look like the set up in the pic that mark posted.
I suppose it doesnt matter as long as it isnt leaking, or does it?
Havent started it yet, waiting for all the spilt fyel to dry of.
any suggestions welcome.
cheers guys

Hi Mate...Did you run the pump without cranking and check for leaks?...If you have and it doesn't leak then you should be fine...Ziga
