Takeing the p**s out of people they fined - NSCP

Seems that not content with rolling around in all the lovely moeny they have, the Northumbria Safety Camera Partnership now want publicity by letting the press have a good laugh at the people they have fined.
Quite sure it would have been sidesplitting if you had to use one of these in an attempt to keep your job, house, etc, due to possiable loss of licence.
Really endears me to them.
TOP TEN SPEEDING EXCUSES
Dying hamsters, overhead jets, aliens and a desperate need for the toilet have all been offered as excuses by speeding motorists.
Speed camera organisation The Northumbria Safety Camera Partnership has publicised the zaniest ways that drivers hoped to avoid a penalty.
Manager Ray King said everything from the wind behind the car to a vibrating surfboard were quoted by motorists.
"This is a light-hearted look at excuses for speeding but it is a serious issue - we'd rather not be getting any letters at all because no one is breaking the speed limit and no one is receiving a ticket," he said.
"It is quite amazing the lengths some drivers will go to to avoid £60 and three points, when really the alternative is extremely simple - keeping within the speed limit."
The 10 most elaborate excuses given by drivers caught by speed cameras were:
:: I had passed out after seeing flashing lights in the distance, which I believed to be UFOs. The flash of the camera brought me round from my trance.
:: I was in the airport's flight path, and I believe the camera was triggered by a jet overhead, not my car.
:: I had a severe bout of diarrhoea and had to speed to a public toilet.
:: There was a strong wind behind my car which pushed me over the limit.
:: My friend had just chopped his own fingers off, and I was rushing the digits to hospital.
:: The vibrations from the surfboard I had on the roof rack set off the camera.
:: I had to rush my dying hamster to the vets.
:: A violent sneeze caused a chain reaction where my foot pushed down harder on the accelerator.
:: There was a suspected case of foot and mouth and I had to rush to see the cow concerned.
:: The only way I could demonstrate that my clutch was faulty was to accelerate madly.

Fingers - Car being used as an ambulance. It's allowed to break the limit (the question then is "does ferrying severed digits count as ambulance duty).
Vibrations could well lead to an inaccurate readind (although the scamera probably won't be aimed at the roof rack)
Sneeze? Involentury human reaction.
Cow? If it was around the F&M debarcle, and the guy was a vet I'd suggest time was of the essance.
Knackered clutch? That's just a test of clutch slip. Don't do it where there's a scamera you muppet.

He did, and i seem to recall he was up for not just speeding, but down the hard shoulder in a traffic jam!

I had to explain this actually happened to me in a desperate attempt to get away from aliens as fast as possible.
It came from a deeply imbedded psychological fear of them, after being married to one for over fifteen years.
The court unreservedly accepted my explanation.

Slightly off thread, when I were a kid we used to hack about on home made soap boxes, four on board down a decent slope and we would be flying (almost).
So if this were done today and a made up No plate fitted to the back would we get 'Gatso'ed'. Could be a right good laugh for youngsters today, or is this against the Nanny state as well.

At least trafpol treat this one a little differently..
Trafpol..."Why were you speeding"
MOP......."I was looking for a sh*thouse"
Trafpol..."Well you just found one - licence please"
The old ones are the best.
Steve
Obviously speedcop (ne Streetcop) in finding hilarious the excuse relating to sudden sneezes has forgotten
HM Advocate v Ritchie 1926.
Few cases round here dropped during pre trial discussions because the trigger limit is so close to the posted limit that the defence of automatism could be valid.
