My wife and I are looking to move to Knaresborough and have found a house we really like, http://www.bridgfords.co.uk/forsaleoffice/Knaresbo... this one on Stephenson Close. We have two young children who are both in primary school and if we move they would be eligible for Aspin Park or St Johns. Is anybody from the area who could give us any advice about these schools? And about the surrounding area. We just want to make sure we're doing the right thing and we believe schooling is really important.

When they get to secondary, I believe St Aidans in Harrogate is very good. My Mrs went there and she seems to have turned out alright.

Most secondaries in the area are good.

King James is good in Knaresborough.

Not sure about the schools etc, but I work in Harrogate and the surrounding area and you honestly can't really go wrong, it's all good.

I was working at a house just around the corner only a few days ago.

Personally I prefer living in Harrogate but Knaresborough is lovely, my friends kids both went to Aspin and loved it. I went to King James school myself so you're also good for the next school too.

Gratuitous self promotion coming up but give me a shout if you need an Electrician ☺

Nice little area, handy for the A1 (ten mins), a short taxi, bus or train ride to Harrogate and, looks to be a south west facing rear garden. Go for it, the house looks nice.

The area and roads (cycling or driving) or superb.

Much prefer Knaresborough to Harrogate.. You'll not go too far wrong in any of the areas.

Lovely area.
I used to police Kboro for some time.
Its low crime, has good schools and is within reach of most places worth visiting.
You get the A1 on your doorstep for all those other places.
Enjoy the move.

As someone who is originally from Knaresborough, it was a great place to go to grow up. The schools are good (Aspin/King James), there's loads of decent countryside, people aren't as snobbish as in Harrogate and there isn't much crime.

Saying that, I wouldn't want to live there at my age without a family, as coming back from Leeds it feels very Dalesy, the centre struggles a bit with a really high turnover of shops and there isn't loads going on.

But like I've said, a great place for a family!

Stephson close is on the Aspin estate which is good. Actually, they are all fine apart from Carmires.

Ooh! Me! Me! Me! [/camp mode]

Knaresborough is quite a nice place to live, but the commute to Harrogate is a nightmare... I go at about 7am to avoid all the traffic and go via Killinghall to avoid Starbeck and the awful speed-humps on Bogs Lane. Gives the engine chance to warm up, honest!

In terms of schools; my middle one goes to Meadowside, which is a school undergoing a renaissance under a new, keen, headmaster. My youngest goes to the associated pre-school. My eldest went to Boroughbridge, which suited him more than King James.

Aspin is very good, as is St. John's. We found St. John's to be a bit chaotic on the open day, though. The teachers delegated the duty of showing the parents around to the children...

If you like Mexican food; I can thoroughly recommend Hallieva Mexicana in the Market Place, followed by a few swift bevvies in Blind Jack's or So! Bar. We've go a brand new Weatherspoons as well.

As others have said; it's a great base for going off elsewhere - some great drives just on the doorstep. thumbup
