Can anyone advise me as to the viability of this, will it work on the move, can I get PH for nowt, will it work on an old laptop etc?

You can browse for nothing if you are near a wireless hotpsot. Lots of petrol stations, cafes, etc etc have free wireless hotspots now.

However if you want to do this from home, it's highly unlikely that you'll get free web access. Unless one of your neighbours has an insecure wireless connection (like a friend of mine has found!)

You'll need to buy broadband, wireless kit, etc - and it will work on an old laptop.
