Moving car shots

Potentially off to Silverstone tomorrow, may well be on my own (a mate is working there). So after some advice for panning shots.

Previously I've done this and tend to end up with 1 or 2 goodens from a whole days shooting. Some examples http://www.ipernity.com/doc/348947, I got told they were over processed.
Any tips please.

They may be a touch short on focal length, although I've never been to Silverstone. I've done panning whenever I've gone to motorsport events and my advice would be this: scout a good location than doesn't have the car coming at you or away from you too much and then work on the trifecta (ISO, shutter & aperture). I find that 100, 1/30 f/8 worked for bright days and that was with a 300mm on a crop body.700D

250mm will feel way too short for Silverstone, it will be if you want close up shots of the cars, less so if you're happy to include some background.
Fences will also be a killer and will ruin your day as all the killer spots you think you know will have huge fences in front of them. There is a photography slit at the end of Becketts just before they turn onto Hangar straight.
This is at 260mm.
You can also get over the fence at Vale although a better spot is about 100metres to the right infront of the grandstand as the cars approach the chicane. You'll be shooting through the fence so you'll need a fairly slow shutter speed.
This was at 161mm so easily within your range.
Also leave the tripod in the car, you can't pan with one and with the lenses you've mentioned you won't even need a monopod.
