Cosworth Subaru BRZ on the way?

Hands up if you knew the 'FA20' engine code already. Nope? Us neither. It's the code given to the Subaru BRZ's 2.0-litre flat four (the Toyota unit is 4U-GSE) and it's the subject of a video from Cosworth. Interesting...

Subaru and Cosworth of course have previous with the Impreza CS400. This looks to be a more independent project from Cosworth, the Power Packages likely to extend to cars beyond the BRZ introduction. Still, as a beginning to this project it's a particularly exciting start.

The official blurb from Cosworth is as follows: "'For 2014 we are bringing... our Performance Parts range - providing complete performance upgrade kits that have been designed and validated as a system to provide guaranteed levels of power and reliability.First for the Cosworth Power Package treatment? The FA20 engine platform... coming soon."

Cosworth has also released a quick teaser video of the FA20 package, with a pic of a stickered up and bespoilered BRZ. No more details yet though. Consider our interest piqued!

As it's cosworth this will bo doubt be double the price of any other forced induction conversion for these cars.

I hope there is a good NA option in amongst this, really hoping for ITB's but a nice fancy inlet like the one Cosworth did for the Duratec's would be fine. Some cam's, maybe forged pistons and a 4-branch. I don't know what the heads are like stock but as Yamaha were involved I hope they are good. Call it 240bhp and 200/tonne ish, all the car I could ever need then really. (I can dream).

240 seems achievable with these on just the basic breathing and ECU mods at the moment. Seems like they're pegged back from the factory quite a lot as standard.

'Validated' seems like a curious word to use. I guess I'd like to think there's some sort of 'validation' from Subaru UK for this range of modifications. In reality I think they just mean they've tested the parts it all works. Ho hum.

Still no sodding turbo! Why would you make me watch the path all the way up the exhaust for 4 hours for that disappointment!

It's like a slow mo film up a pair on stockings that ends in the discovery she's a transvestite!

Grrrr Japan lead the bloody turbo era, those were good times.. I still get a semi watching old best motoring 'tuner battles'.

Then finally when the entire world market shifts to turbo on a drive for more economical power... the Japanese car industry decides to opt out!!!

Company called 'Innovate motorsports' have had a complete twin screw supercharger kit available in different versions for a while now:

It includes everything even an ECU map if you want it. .

They claim a power increase of about 25% at the wheels on a safe tune with US 91 or UK 95 octane fuel.

Our own Abbey & Litchfield provide supercharger systems of 2 different types along with Fennsport offering the turbo set up. Cosworth better come up with something spectacular to make anyone thinking of mods move from the above 3 local players.
