Hi guys. I done the stupid thing of locking my keys in the boot. The lovely roadside recovery bloke tried to fish the cable for the mechanism through the panel bolts behind the number plate but unfortunately he unclipped the cable from the mechanism. We managed to fish the keys out eventually by inflating so pads around the boot. But now the boot won't unlock. I don't have the interior boot release either. If anyone can help I will be forever grateful.

I was going to say use the interior release...

Are you sure you don't have one?
In the centre console between seats, or is that only on the imports?

Doesn't do you any good at the moment, as you can't get into your boot, but MX5Parts do a boot release kit - Linky Here

It's an electronic kit, but I assume it works with the ignition off - if you need to turn the ignition on to get at the keys you've just locked in your boot it kinda defeats the purpose!

All sorted cheers guys I had to go through the rear light cluster with a hammer and chisel then operate the boot release by hand fixed the fault and replaced the light cluster and will be buying the electronic boot release as the can be wire up however you see fit. All of this was done for under £30 so the locksmiths can certainly shove the £130+ quote where the sun doesn't shine lmao.

Not on early Mk1s. Not sure when they were introduced but all later Mk1s should have it.

my '95 uk doesn't, but the '94 Eunos I'm sorting does!

I always do a double take before slamming the boot lid, just in case they have dropped into the boot before closing!!!!

Mine was a 97 UK spec and unfortunately no remote boot release I think this wa only a feature in the euros as my friends 92 eunos has the pull leaver in the center console or an optional on the UK spec. U have now ordered an electronic boot release which is an aftermarket bolt on addition and should make life easier.
