Looking at the blue 4.5 in the ads , would a stolen /recovered car need to have a document with it to prove this at all?
The hpi check just comes up as a CatD
Thanks

No, there are no documents that detail a stolen/recovered. In fact there are no documents that cover what the Cat ratings are. In my experiance a stolen recovered will be classed Cat X, which indicates an non-determined total-loss, later an assessor will give an appropriate category. Cat D normally indicating 'insurer declined to repair' which may be because the repair cost exceed value, or, in the case of stolen/recovered, that the insurer has already paid out on the policy.

I owned a bodyshop and routinely dealt with assessor and total-loss vehicles.

Interesting , thanks. I was just thinking a stolen CatD would be better than a crash repaired CatD.?

I guess it depends on the state it was found when recovered.

Cat d just means its had a non total loss claim against it, sadly impossible to know if that just means door/ignition/steering locks etc or even a front end.

Ive bought many catd stolen recovereds in the past and they can be completely undamaged where the keys were stolen, or even needing a new front end, lights and rads.

Good savings to be had, never bothered me when driving them, and as long as you realise it will never hold "full" value its fine, you do have to notify potential purchasers, but at least unlike cat c its not stamped all over the log book.

Thanks , I have no problem with driving a CatD either, but the fact that this one doesn't also come up on the hpi check as stolen/ recovered unnerves me a little. Im fine with the buy cheap sell cheap , I just want to make sure I have all the information that's needed with cars of this status so I can sell it if I have to and not get stuck with it because I wasn't aware of something.
I've already been burnt with my last cerb when dream machines collapsed , so I'm over cautious now.
I think the owner is now advertising his tvr number plate so he can drop the price of the car.
What does anyone think of its price considering the lack of history proof and a cat d status?
Thanks

if cautious i would call the owner (if possible) around the time and ask what the reason is for being on cat d, what damage was done, a;ternatively bills for any repairs mechanical or bodywork and if from a good garage can help
