Just been watching the Dambusters, did a bit of reading up on Guy Gibson, god that man achieved a lot in 26 short years, 170 missions by the age of 24!

Apparently shot (possibly by the RAF )in a mossie at 26.

It's astonishing to think that when he led the Dams raid he was 24 - oldish by standards of the day but who here has done 1,000th of what he did? At 24 I was just finishing my degree.

He should never have gone back on ops after his VC, but badgered the boss until he gave in.

Off topic, but last year visited the British and Commonwealth war graves at Monte Cassino, thousands of graves, most soldiers aged between 19 and 22...heartbreaking.

Guy Gibson certainly deserved his Victoria Cross.

Less famous now but equally worthy was Leonard Cheshire VC.

I dont think many people can comprehend how much anyone managed to do in those dark days, let alone men like Gibson who stand out from the rest.
