Hi everyone,

If I accelerate in 4th/5th gear at motorway speeds I have a vibration coming through the wheel, as soon as I let off there is no vibration.

Any ideas?

shagged driveshaft is the usual culprit

Thanks smile

Could the vibrations damage the gearbox?

We are talking about the driveshaft and not the CV joint?

Many thanks,

Matt

Btw, just to add it only seems to be between certain speeds, particularly in 3rd gear.

How would I diagnose it as a damaged drive shaft? Is it a case of grabbing it and trying to move it about to see the play in it?

Before I spend £000's on new shafts, I jacked the car up and rotated the drivers side wheel to see if I could hear anything. I can hear a very faint clicking noise once every rotation.

In all likelyhood, is this faint clicking noise a symptom of a failing driveshaft?

Many thanks,

Matt
