Looking at an 06 s320 or 730d. Was considering a used car warranty from warranty direct or 'what car warranty'. Anyone have experience of a warranty and do they pay up or wiggle out of it.

From my experience with warranty direct dont bother. They drag their heels, refuse claims and are generally extremely poor.

My view is that anything that is likely to be covered by a warranty is unlikely to occur. I take the risk and keep a car expense slush fund.

Having said that I know people who have benefitted from used car warranties, although whether they saved anything over paying up front is debatable.

Had this dilemma a while ago. Ended up upgrading my aa membership to cover repairs. Seemed the cheapest way. Warranties were massively overpriced

Call WD. Get a price. Ask them to send you a copy of the policy.

Read the policy and see how much it doesn't cover.

They will call you and reduce price.

Bought a warranty for a BMW 116i from the RAC. £599 for three years cover IIRC.

Power steering pump failed, they authorised the repair without any hassle. Was about £450 worth of work. Sold the car after 9 months so didn't get full use out of the warranty.

I probably wouldn't do it again though, they usually don't like self serviced cars, so the price of the warranty plus the price of labour on servicing over the warranty period soon adds up.

I have an approved used Jag warranty on my XJR. £5500 claimed on it last year. Just renewed for £1200 , seems like good value to me.
