anyone used anything other than ford based stalks?
Discussion
As the title, just wondering if anyone has used any other mnaufacturers stalks other than ford based.
I am considering a little dashboard design exercise ( which I may not even use in a car). I am going to make up a simple plywood and timber frame/mock up of the current dashshape with column position and work from there. Some of the Citroen and Peugeot stalks sets look interesting with pretty much everything controlled on the stalks, but I havent gone any further that simply looking.

just wondering exactly how much electronic jiggery pokery is connected with these modern switches...... switches and electrics I am fine with, ecus and electronics give me a head ache.I am considering a little dashboard design exercise ( which I may not even use in a car). ooooo just finished mk 1 of my dash
i looked at early ford stalks and later type every one else used( selling them if anyone interested), but settled on vauxhall ones.
they are shaped to be closer to the wheel than the fords, and although they dont have horn button, ive used the right one as horn, so pulling towards you is horn rather than screen wash.
on the left there is no need for extra relays as a quick pull goes from high to low when lights on, so the pushing forward to do high isnt used and can be wired for something else.
when finished i was going to look at doing some kits, seeing as someones selling the ford ones for £500 a go, i recon i can do these for half that
enjoy the pics, dash just finished but as said mk1.. im looking at centre consol like maclaren, thin with all the white gauges in, then 5 inch screen will go where starter is as my rear view camera and tom tom..
i hope you like the dash, ive tried to keep it as production as possible, but also factory looking and the hardest part has been modifing an existing dash rather than new build which would have been 10 x easier,

I'm not sure I'd go for anything French, they're not exactly renowned for their electronic quality or reliability are they?
I tried vectra ones and mini ones before settling on the ford ones. Mini ones weren't bad
you have a point... they usually make cars to last 2 or 3 years... then fail spectacularly with numerous electic gremlins.... but think that tends to be crap wiring not the actual switch gear... although I could be wrong!

Just looking at all options at the moment, a coupl;e caught my eye the other week in a salvage yard for newish vehicles.. will be back over there on tuesday to have a better look around and measure up.... spotted a few left field vehicles that may be interesting which people probably wouldnt think of..

Nice but a bit stubby IMO. Seems to be missing wiper control and horn though.
Yes, true, it looks a little stubby when the wheel is off. But it is nice to use, sturdy and is almost not noticeable behind the wheel. I need the horn and the wipers maybe twice a year, so I've left it for switches.

Would this be for the wipers, etc?
Yes, for the wipers, but then it gets complicated and a solution with the Ford stalks would possibly be easier.http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=2&a...

What if you cold get rid of these stalks?
Why not use a push button panel on the steering wheel, similar to a 458 Italia?
Only a few buttons, for essential functions are needed on that panel:
turn signal one for left, one for right, one for high/low beam, one for horn, one for wiper trigger, thats all.
It might look much more race inspired than using ugly looking plasic stalks from a compact car....
I'm going this route.
