'Last read' button?

Any way we can get a 'last read' button to click when you've gone back to a thread? A basic function most message boards seem to have, quite surprised PH doesn't have it really.

If you click on "my stuff" there is an icon next to the page numbers "go to new posts" that should get you to where you want.

Don't you have to have posted in a thread for that to work? Is there any way to jump to the first unread post in any thread?

No, I browse threads I haven't posted in and the button is there, the only time it doesn't appear is if there have been no posts since I last read the thread.

Its there, but its not worked properly for a while.

If I have not been on a thread for a good few pages, it doesnt return me to my last read post it returns me to the last page.

What is the coding behind this as it knowns if I have read something, just not which post I read last.

needs to be greater than 1 page in length I think.

What annoys me is that my stuff page might have a load of stuff that I havent read... then I go and look at something and go back to the my stuff page, its then decided I have already read half the stuff there.

Also whilst asking, why is it that every single topic I click on now appears in my stuff, regardless if I have bookmarked it, replied to it, etc.

All greyed out so those topics are read. There is no 'last post' in a wiki.

We store in the database the last time you visited and a cookie on your machine and do some cross comparing with dates to work out when you have last visited. We then use that to show a little icon in My Stuff or What's New that looks like this:


If you click on it, then it will take you to the last page you read.

This will only work on threads with more than one page since you last read it.

We also have a little line that goes across the threads saying where you were when you last visited, it isn't perfect but can help a little.

As it uses a cookie, it can get itself in a twist sometimes and not show correctly, but hopefully the majority of time it works.

Do you have to be using a particular skin to get that icon? I have never ever seen that on my "my stuff" page.
