Finally finished my carbon rear defuser , been a pretty tough job as I wanted it to be SVA compliant !!
Weighs in at 3kg so a good weight saving over my old one and looks the part too .

Nice bit of kit. Are these going into production? Need to try and tie in a trip down south with meeting up to collect a splitter at some point!

Nice one. The mrs is angling at getting a puppy and most of the breaders are down south so I'm sure I will be able to haggle some carbon bits against a dog. ;-)

Have you considered making some structural stuff out of carbon? I was watching a video on koenigsegg and they said that with the right layup carbon is about the same strength as steel in terms of thickness. So a 2 mm carbon plate should be about the same strength as a 2 mm steel plate.

Just thinking thinks like valve covers, tanks, pipework could be made to save some weight. Then maybe suspension arms etc. could be made up.

looked at cam covers etc... absolute nightmare and originals rant heavy enough to make it worth while. I had them designed and made for my Ultima 10 years plus ago as they were heavy and relatively simple so saved quite a bit... reverie sell them!

wishbones, now way... Ive replaced some of the structure on my car with carbon... along with almost all the alloy panels... however you have to be careful as sometimes carbon isn't the correct material and you end up spending ages and a fortune for almost no weight saving.

Top Work Si (and Andy in your other carbon thread).

Can I ask why do you want SVA compliant and what needs doing compared to the Ally diffuser you had ? (The Jetstream one?)

To be honest there is a lot of talk about what you need for something to be Road legal and a lot of stuff for sale does not meet SVA regs , I approached them to get some regs on exactly what would be needed on a rear facing defuser so if I produced one it would be road legal , they were very helpful and advised me accordingly .
It made the whole build more complex and expensive but was worth it in the end .

5mm rubber edging will sort out any sharpe edges and make them legal but most suppliers get around it by saying the parts are for track use only and should not be used on the road !!!

good points Andy! Any other areas you would look to make out of carbon? engine mounts maybe? There can be much left other than the steel chassis, that isn't carbon on yours! lol

Hmmmm i wonder if anyone has done carbon fiber housings for the cold side of a turbo?....

Think I might have to agree and say I would have one too.

The finishing touch to my dark blue and carbon only theme.
